MTMTE #52

Full preview up here.

Spoilery stuff:

It's a good solid start with some great Ravaging and the closest anyone's yet come to saying "Hey Tarn, you used to be..."

Going by the solicit (just "Megatron Vs Tarn") and the cover (Tarn punching Megatron in the face), I'm beginning to wonder if we'll hear the end of that conversation before they start fighting :/
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

I knew *he'd* be back, it was too good a plot point to leave hanging! The entrance didn't quite have the gravitas I hoped though (possibly as I was reading whilst on the bog).

Yeah, that was good.

Read a review that gave it 5/10, which - without mentioning details on that - effectively said it was good, till the occurrence, but that the occurrence made the issue ****. And that backward explaining it wasn't going to cut the mustard

Which doesn't sound good does it?

Indeed, you all may have read said review yourselves already.

I would say that the writer of said review is a bit thick and a ****

I want to see Tarn tear Overlord in two.

The writing between Megatron and Tarn is just beyond compelling.

Loving it.

Really didn't see that coming, but it was an awesome bit of a plot twist. And it all makes sense tying back into the big plot thread if we assume that Overlord's mysterious "benefactors" are the same dudes we saw arriving too late to take care of Demus's operation and they're also invested in the batch of clone-things the Lost Light crew are misguidedly protecting under the "fortress".

No mention of Rewind #1 but there's plenty of time for that.

The Ravage/Ratchet interaction was worth the price of the issue alone, as was Tarn trying to kill Megatron right underneath his statue, the return of the Space Scooter, Kaon from start to (messy) finish... damn but this just builds on the previous two issues and then some.

I hadn't, but now I have and I cannot disagree with your assessment of the situation.

The other review that I read gave it 5/5 and I think it was more on the money. However, it also mentioned that MTMTE is going on hiatus after #56 for a Titans Return crossover. Which I'm choosing to ignore for the time being... though Nightbeat's request that his head be saved after his body was burnt is starting to make a bit more sense now.

Or have a glass full of spare change near their beds. That they don't have.

Re: a short haitus

JR is writing par of that, so it should hopefully be ok.

On the plus side, assuming Alex Milne doesn't draw it, it'll give him some R&R time.

I'm assuming that art probably played a part in schedule slipping.

So hopefully we'll then have him back fighting fit on all books.

I personally think the art takes a bit of a dive when he's off the book - no real issue with the other dude's actual bots per se (although he does draw them a bit boxy and rushed sometimes imo).

But Milne's mise en scène, art direction, choice of angles... they just are the total bomb. The other guy can't really compare.

As well as Milne's amazing art, it's gotta be said that LaFluente's colouring on this issue was superb too. Just flicking through the pages, from the clear skies at the beginning through the yellows, oranges and reds fading to black as the sun sets, it's incredible work. It really fits the foreboding tone of the issue so well.

Liked this. Finally got a battle between some heavy hitters, like old school. I likes me some old school. Nice surprise to see Overlord. Wasn't expecting that. The more I see of Tarn, the more kickass he looks. Be nice to have a toy of him, but he's a bit too much on the sadistic side to display on my shelf personally. Glad to see Ravage alive and well. Ravage should never die. Ever.

The most interesting element in the story for me was Megatron's theory that perhaps the dumbed down Energon is somehow changing Megatron's personality by subduing parts of the real him. In other words, we now have to ask ourselves the same question Megatron is asking. Is Megatron an Autobot because Prime chemically influenced him to be so? Brilliant writing and a very interesting question. Something tells me that we're going to be seeing a "The Return of Megatron: Decepticon Supreme" story down the line. Likely waaaaaay down the line as nothing ever gets wrapped up quickly when Roberts is at the helm.

Looks like another touchy feely issue next. All heart to heart. Meh. I mean, yeah, they're well written. But I find myself enjoying most those that are action centric with emotional moments rather than emo-centric with moments of action.
"But the Costa story featuring Starscream? Fantastic! This guy is "The One", I just know it, just from these few pages. "--Yaya, who is never wrong.
