"Hi, me from a few years ago."
"Hi, future me. What's up?"
"In November of 2015, you're gonna be SUPER emotionally invested in a Transformers love triangle."
"That seems unlikely, future me. But, sure. Between who? Spike, Carly, and Raul?" Arcee, Rodimus, and Springer?" "Blackarachnia, Silverbolt, and, I don't know, Rattrap?"
"Nope. Tailgate, Getaway, and Cyclonus."
"You're puttin' me on."
"Nope. It's gonna be even more compelling than the drama with Rewind and Chromedome."
"Get out."

Re: MTMTE 47
Getaway is so so sosososo sleazy in this.
I mean really.
Reminds me of the guys in college who drove me nuts, and Tailgate reminds me of the girls who dated them because they didn't have their **** together enough to stop the "steamroller" method.
Not that Cyclonus is much better.

Or have a glass full of spare change near their beds. That they don't have.

Re: MTMTE 47
Well.
That was a thing that happened. My head is still spinning.
Can I just say that the coloring in this issue was beyond phenomenal? Talk about setting the mood.
Something about Tailgate and Cyclonus' spark being linked has yet to play out in this.

Wow that was heartstoppingly brilliant
Re: MTMTE 47
Meh. Just an okay issue from where I stand. I prefer more space opera and less soap opera in my TF stories. Too much lovey-dovey, hand holding going on. The petty squabbles of lovers just doesn't have that same gusto to it.
The characters are fleshed out quite well now. I'm hoping things move forward more with the overall story, as I'm losing track of where we stand in the plot department. Guess they're still looking for the Knights of Cybertron.

I wouldn't call what Getaway did a "petty squabble."Yaya wrote: The petty squabbles of lovers just doesn't have that same gusto to it. .

Re: MTMTE 47
If that had been all this issue gave us I'd agree with you 100% but there was so much more to this - even including an interlude where Whirl turned around and gave a magnificent bastard speech mocking Cyclonus and his "boo-hoo, sad-face relationship problems". That's gotta be worth the price of the issue alone.Yaya wrote:Too much lovey-dovey, hand holding going on. The petty squabbles of lovers just doesn't have that same gusto to it.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

I kind of agree with Yaya, kind of agree with everybody else.
***************Spoilers***********************
My problem - I just don't really care much for tailgate.
Since he survived Cyber Cancer... I've found him dickish. He was already a bit of a drip.
And Getaway's grooming of him - for me, the way it has been written has felt a bit clumsy and hard to believe.

Re: MTMTE 47
I think snarl's hit upon a key point for me in that I really don't like Tailgate that much. He's been alternately smug, selfish or stupid pretty much since the start of the second series and quite deliberately, I think - see Rodimus's description of him as they're trying to flee the brawl in Maccadam's, his face is a punch magnet. Not to mention that Tailgate's stupid insistence on having a curly straw in his drink was what started the brawl in the first place. Even in this issue with Getaway, lines like "I demand a translation!" don't do him any favours and just make it harder to sympathise with the irritating little git.
I think the real tragedy here is that his stupidity has not only doomed himself but Cyclonus as well. What the hell does Cyclonus see in Tailgate anyway?

Re: MTMTE 47
Well, that's my main prob.
I like the issue more after re-reading, but still...
My guess is it'll be something like "Everybody needs a a friend even if they think / pretend otherwise. And friendships are always special, whether they're forged through necessity or altruism"
But yeah, I'm kind of thinking now that Tailgate is the means to show the end, that being that Cyclonus is an honourable ******.
So it works a bit in my head, now I'm thinking it's a story about Cyclonus more than one about Tailgate.

Re: MTMTE 47
I think this is the element that irks me most. I just don't get the attraction here. They're like polar opposites, and I know maybe that's the point, but it just doesn't fit right. It makes Cyclonus come off as a bit of a douche. It's not really Tailgate that bothers me. It's Cyclonus' unexplainable attraction to Tailgate, especially after all that he's seen and done throughout his million years of existence, being one of the older bots.Metal Vendetta wrote:What the hell does Cyclonus see in Tailgate anyway?
Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed the antics and shenanigans aboard the Lost Light. The interplay between the varying personalities has been wonderful. But even that can get stale. I found myself loving the whole Scavengers bit with Grimlock much more than I expected to, and I think it was because of the change of scenery.

Re: MTMTE 47
Yes! This exactly - Cyclonus is supposed to be this ancient, noble warrior-demon and I'm really having trouble with the idea that he's fallen head-over-heels for Tailgate. I could maybe buy into it more if it had been presented as more of a case of maternal instinct - Tailgate is naïve and in need of protection from the likes of Getaway who will try to manipulate him and has repeatedly been represented as an infant.Yaya wrote:It's Cyclonus' unexplainable attraction to Tailgate, especially after all that he's seen and done throughout his million years of existence, being one of the older bots.
And that's another thing, all these SJW types who love to imagine that all the characters on the Lost Light are all genderfluid and **** and who have been harping on about Cyclonus's holomatter avatar being a woman... By their "logic" doesn't that make Cyclonus a woman who wants to **** a baby? Not a point of view I can sympathise with, really.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

Yes, "Why the [composite word including 'f*ck'] does he love Tailgate" is basically what I thought, and tried to present my reasoning - but I agree, your idea about it being presented more as a maternal love would have made more sense.
Then I got to your SJW part and thought "Oh, here he goes again!" but this time it actually made me laugh.

See, that I can buy. After seeing the face of war for so very long, after all the massacres and deaths and tragedy, he's come to cherish the innocence in Tailgate that is so rarely found amongst an army plagued by endless war. That makes sense to me.
But I can't help but shake creepy almost pedophilic vibes coming from Cyclonus the way this is set up (the fact that Tailgate is child-size doesn't help). Certainly, Roberts was not going for that, but accidentally, he might have misfired a bit.

Re: MTMTE 47
On Saturday morning on BBC2 they showed Beverly Hills Chihuahua. It was a brilliant film, and the relationship between the tough as nails ex-cop German Shepherd protecting the fish out of water Chihuahua felt (and looked) so much Cyclonus and Tailgate.
The German Shepherd didn't help her because he fancied her either, it was more because he was honourable and remembering his days as a cop on the force. Maybe that's whats in it for Cyclonus. He doesn't fancy Tailgate, but time has made them good, close pals. And he actually likes having a pal, which is kind of what the Andy Garcia-voiced German Shepherd felt, too.
