That looks brilliant. Chris Pratt on Parks and Rec is hilarious and I think he'll be perfect here.

Hoping that's not the entirety of Peter Serafinowicz's performance.

Re: The Guardians of the Galaxy. What a bunch of a-holes.
Rewatched the trailer again, and have realised something that I haven't seen anyone else talking about anywhere (and hopefully won't).
This could be assumed, by people unfamiliar with GotG, to be some kind of Farscape clone.
I mean, we've got a Crichton, an Aeryn, a D'Argo, a Rigel, a Zhaan, a Crais, a Scorpius, and possibly, even a Pilot/Moya.
There's even a similar plotline: A lone US pilot finds himself on the other side of the galaxy, joins a rag-tag band of outlaws, then gets pursued by a galactic military who are after some superweapon he's come into possession of.
It's not going to be a Farscape clone, obviously, but there's enough there for the comparison to be made.

Re: The Guardians of the Galaxy. What a bunch of a-holes.
Surely anybody familiar enough with Farscape to recognise the similarities is also going to be smart enough to not really be fussed, considering that Farscape itself was a mishmash of existing sci-fi concepts anyway.
So many shared concepts in sci-fi (and comics in general) anyway. I find most people are accepting enough to acknowledge that, if something's bringing an original take to the table it'll be forgiven the occasional bit of borrowing.
And it's not as if it's Marvel's most blatant "concept lifted straight from something else" stuff. Looking at you, Thor.

Thor is not just blatant, it's overt.
But, like I said, I hadn't seen the comparison being made anywhere.

My wife and I were talking about how GotG seemed to be a mix of Firefly/Farscape elements. Chris Pratt's character in particular is definitely evoking the John Crichton personality in parts.
That being said, like Brendocon pointed out, everyone borrows from everyone else. Farscape and Firefly are certainly not the first places to feature outlaw crews headed by a charismatic gunslinger.

Yes - Firefly's while concept is "Space Western" - its the execution that makes it fly.
Anyway - i am excited for this and this is the best use of music in a trailer in bloomin ages.

You know what this trailer reminds me of? Tonally, I mean? Ghostbusters. Big budget, sci-fi, that looks to be absolutely hilarious.

Ah, yes. Heard it again in a quieter environment and managed to make out some of the lyrics.

Not only was that *so* good, it means that pretty much NOTHING is off-limits for future Marvel movies.

That was a ballsy brilliant film. So much good stuff.

Great fun. Certainly top tier as far as Marvel movies go.
It was also awesome that the bad guys didn't realise they were being sent up in a comedy sci-fi. (Glad to see that it looks like one of them will be back too).
Most blatant McGuffin in a movie for yonks?
I accidentally bought a ticket to a performance for the hard of hearing. Free subtitles!

Yep! Overheard several people confused that a Disney character had made an appearance.Best First wrote:

Yep but again totally knowing with an “Ark of the Covenant, Maltese Falcon vibe.”spiderfrommars wrote:

Sounstrack is currently lighting up my life.
Agree about the villains - Ronan expecting a standard denouement and ending up in a one sided dance off was a joy.
Slightly dissapointed Cosmo didn't get a speaking part but would probably have been one talking animal too many.
Re: The Guardians of the Galaxy. What a bunch of a-holes.
Mmhm. I've seen a little bit of criticism that Ronan was one-dimensional, but it makes a nice change to have a villain that isn't at all hammy or self-aware or playing some weird xanatos gambit [composite word including 'f*ck'] masterplan. It might seem a bit one-note, but he plays the [composite word including 'f*ck'] out of that note.
WHAT ARE YOU DOING???
For somebody who left Earth 20+ years ago as a nipper, Quill did well to reference Kiss Me Deadly, Raiders and the Maltese Falcon in the same breath. (hashtag stretching for things to complain about just for the sake of it because the film was brilliant and I can't be seen to like stuff)

Re: The Guardians of the Galaxy. What a bunch of a-holes.
I haven't read the comics recently, but wasn't Ronan sort of a good guy? When last I read about him it was during all that Annihilation stuff years ago. IIRC, didn't Simon write his mini or something? Anyway, did Ronan turn evil in recent comics?

Re: The Guardians of the Galaxy. What a bunch of a-holes.
Add it to the list of other things that are true in the comics but aren't true in the cinematic universe.
It's almost like it's a completely different continuity.

Re: The Guardians of the Galaxy. What a bunch of a-holes.
Agreed on Ronan. If it's done well, having a "straightforward" villain isn't a bad thing.
Ronan's a Kree, he hates Xandar and the Nova Corps, and wants revenge.
Sometimes you don't need a Loki, Hannibal Lecter or other complex, tortured villain. Sometimes you just need a bad guy with a big hammer.
