So basically, who is going to die?

My bets are:

- One of Whirl or Cyclonus
- One of Ratchet and First Aid
- Maybe Swerve, given his commentary on the briefcase and the fact that not only are the clasps off but as of Pharma's shooting of Brainstorm the case is no longer attached to Brainy

The solicits seems to imply major death, but then so did the Overlord solicits, and the only deaths were Pipes (sob) and Rewind with Magnus under real threat. Still pretty heavy but not the massacre that was advertised. That said we have already lost Ambus, Atlas and Ambulon this arc - assuming that is definitely it for Dai Atlas (possibly my one criticism of the art last issue - if you had not read Escalation and the similar scene there it's maybe a little unclear). So i guess my other musing is how much death should we expect full stop?

Other thoughts:
- i think they key to stopping the switch will be some form of spark sacrifice from a Forged TF - this is where i think the Ratchet/First Aid dynamic could come in. I actually think First Aid is the more likley death candidiate - him dying and Ratchet having to carry on the the role he has shouldered for so long is a far more tragic outcome
- i think either Swerve or Pharma will be the one to open the briefcase - presumably Pharma is still there after Tyrest's exit and he does seem possessed of a certain psychotic cusrioisity. I also wonder though if the chance to save half the TF race could be an appeal to his ego and his competetiveness with Ratchet
- Where are Swerve and Perceptor?
- i hope Lockdown dies as i think he is ****
- I kinda hope Drift shows up and turns Starsabre into starshimi, but this seems unlikley

Naturally all of this will prove to be entirely wrong anayway because Roberts is a Perceptor level genuius and i am only Brainstorm level...

Heh, I was going to start a thread like this.

I'm pretty sure Swerve has to survive, as I'm convinced that it's him that sent the message back from the future in the first issue. Not only because it sounds like the way he talks, but because the solicit for issue #18 (written by Roberts) reads:

"DON'T LET THEM TAKE SKIDS!" The crew of the Lost Light left CYBERTRON before they could hear those words—part of a message from the future warning of terror and catastrophe and a threat to the entire Cybertronian race. Can the AUTOBOTS do anything to stop the beginning of the end?

Swerve was the only other person there when Skids was taken from the Lost Light - from everyone else's point of view he was brought to their cell. So I think that means he has to survive, at least until they discover a means of sending a message back through time. It is interesting that Swerve and Percy disappeared in the last half of last issue but I don't know whether that's deliberate or if they're off-panel.

I really think this could be Whirl's last stand though - the only thing that makes me think otherwise is that he has a new toy coming out.

i agree that's about the only context that line works in - although, unless something happens next issue, i fail to see how preventing that changes much?

Roddy and co are already in the doo doo at that point.

And Tyrest has built the kill switch which seems to be the biggest issue, even not taking Skids on board the lost light in the first place would not chane that.

That said also works as Swerve has his fantasy that he and Skids are friends.

My predictions:

The briefcase will be the maguffin that gives everyone a fighting chance.
Ratchet will sacrifice himself in some way to get Pharma to help Tailgate.
Someone will do something useful with that spare Magnus armour (Tailgate?).
Infact I'm not entirely sure we are done with Ambus. There were several mentions of the fact his body was laying around.
Cyclonus will fulfil his earlier promise to kill Whirl.
Cyclonus will join the circle of light (Dai Atlus suggested he was gifted with their special swords)

I don't want anyone to die especially not Ratchet and First Aid

I really hope Cyclonus doesn't kill Whirl - unless Whirl does something further to incite his wrath.

I know Whirl has tried to kill Cyc twice, it just seems beneath Cyclonus to seek revenge in such a fashion.

edit - Cyclonus only spares Whirl if he joins the circle of light?

Trying to predict the next issue is an easy way for me to look foolish, but what the hey. Not like that would be a new thing.

I think Ratchet and First Aid both survive. Most of that is based on the fact that I really want them both to survive, especially First Aid.

I want to say that Alpha Trion is going to shank Tyrest as soon as he comes through the portal. The portals are all linked right? It seems like Metroplex is the last Titan left so I'm guessing that the spacebridge has to lead to him, which entails Alpha Trion.

Anyone else think it is odd that the Ultra Magnus armor is just hanging out in the hallway instead of in the lab or in an armory? It may mean nothing but it would be like storing your car on your stairwell. Just doesn't add up. I wonder if someone is already in the suit.

One prediction that I am confident in is that Rodimus will say "Til all are one" intra-Tyrest confrontation.

And one more thing, what does Tyrest transform into? A giant gavel? Scales of Justice?

i don't buy the arguement about not killing Whirl cos there is a toy coming out - if anything a good death makes people want a figure more i reckon.

I'm also on the 'Whirl will die' bandwagon. It's building up to a pretty big 'when you least expect it' moment. He's started to bond with Cyclonus, opened up to him about how messed up he is, saved Cyc's life, and the two of them are about to pull a mighty save. I'm not sure if Cyc will do it himself or not, but killing Whirl just as he feels he's finally redeemed himself is where this is all pointing towards, it seems. Maybe his last words will be: "You know what? I think I could maybe turn my life around after a-- URK."

Ratchet also feels like he's at the end of a saga, and First Aid is there to replace him, so it doesn't look good on that front either.

Other than that, it all seems carefully hidden to me. No doubt there will be something totally out of left-field. Isn't it hinted that Drift's 'mission' has to tie in back to this? Isn't there some important reason why Skids shouldn't be there (according to the message from the future)? Can that really be the last we see of Magnus/Ambus?

Isn't it hinted that Drift's 'mission' has to tie in back to this?

Drift hasn't been in the last four issues yet he's still on the "Meet the Crew" page - I'm confident that he's going to reappear next issue. If (and it's a big if) Getaway is telling the truth, him and Skids were working for Prowl with the Duobots. Who worked with Prowl and the Duobots in bringing Overlord aboard? Drift. There's been a strong "Where's Drift?" undercurrent throughout Remain in Light and it's gotta pay off at some point.

Perceptor - we haven't seen much of the "inner sniper" that his "Meet the Crew" entry references. Maybe he's got a plan that involves him trying to take out Tyrest from a distance? I'm thinking something like a wormhole gun, the sort of thing that would really make Brainstorm jealous. That would be kinda cool.

Much as I agree that we seem that being led towards Whirl sacrificing himself for the good of the Cybertronian race, I can't help but think Yeah, but Whirl just wouldn't do that. It's just not his style.

Hm. In terms of predictions, I'm not happy about any of those. Damn you, Roberts, for being so opaque!

Unless the message is read the other way, as a warning not to let the Lost Light crew take Skids with them, which led to the Legislators being on their tail in the first place.

If it isn't, I recommend, we all pool our efforts and MAKE it 100 pages long. Just by having people here on the forums pick characters who are off-panel for a couple of pages, and making extra pages featuring what they were doing in that time.

I'm not sure where the story goes from the point where Whirl dies. It seems like we all know what Cyclonus is capable of. He savagely beat Tailgate just because Tailgate got annoyed with him. Of course he can kill Whirl in cold blood. From a story-logic point of view, I don't know how it advances either Cyclonus's character, the crew of the Lost Light, or our understanding of what Whirl represents (Wreckers, empurata, Autobot tolerance of a psychopath in their mix).
