New series of Red Dwarf commissioned

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Dear Gads, just make it stop already. Quit picking at the scab.

Why?

We've got the old series if we want to reminisce, the actors are all visibly much older and the writing (judging by the last series) is awful.

Honestly what is the point?

I prefer my strategy: expect it to be broadly as enjoyable as waterboarding, then if it turns out to be only mildly awful I'll think it's ok by comparison :)

Everyone in the show seems to know how aweful the last couple of series were (at least now, in retrospect they do, judging by interviews and commentaries i've heard).
There's the glimmer of hope that they won't repeat past mistakes.

I'm optimistic, no point panning it before it's even begun pre-production.

It probably won't be as good as the best we've seen before, but it also probably won't be as bad as the worst we've seen. If it lands somewhere in the middle then I'll be happy.

Odd that Dave would pursue this but cancel the much cheaper and easier to make Argumental (which had the bonus of them actually selling repeat rights to the BBC).

See I found Argumental a bit repetitive and increasingly more of a shouting match than actually funny, but I'm surprised the average Dave viewer felt similar in sufficient numbers to make it non-viable as a show!

I'd much rather they recommissioned 'It's Only a Theory', with the Reginald D. Hunter goodness :)

They should bring back If I Ruled The World instead. That were brilliant.

Back to Earth wasn't that bad was it?

But getting the live audience back in could help them get back on track.

I couldn't disagree more. The time for bringing it back was shortly after the end of series 2.

Failing that, they should have adapted the format for radio, and given it a 6:30pm slot on a weekday on Radio 4. That way, it would still be broadcast today, and be on series 20-something, probably.
