2010 - the best year for TF toys yet? (Image heavy)

Discuss the myriad toylines, games and merchandise of the Transformers Universe (and the wonders of Guzzle's transformation) here. Discussion of other toylines is also welcome.

2010 - the best year for TF toys yet? (Image heavy)

Post by Hound » Wed Sep 22, 2010 8:59 pm

Given my net spend on Transformers this year, I'd probably say so.

To back up my statement, here are some of the awesome figures that have been released this year from the various lines. Apologies for the random size of the pictures...

Generations - a real fan service this year, and some cracking looking figures yet to come! My faves this year:

Drift

Image

WFC Megatron

Image

WFC Soundwave

Image

Darkmount

Image

Image

I'm not forgetting Transformers Animated either. I loved the show and the figures were very faithful. The line is all but dead, yet this year we got these 3 gems:

Arcee

Image

Image

Blackout

Image

Rodimus
Image

Powercore Combiners are crap. Really crap. However, one figure is pretty awesome.

Smolder

Image

Whilst not official, I think FansProject deserve a mention for their awesome custome figures:

Defender

Image

Image

Munitioner

Image

Explorer

Image

and the glory of the combined mode

Image

The biggest surprise for me has been Hunt for The Decepticons. I don't normally touch the movie-verse but there are some fantastic figures in the line that wouldn't look out of place in Generations:

Seaspray

Image

Image

Bludgeon

Image

Hailstorm

Image

Image

Breacher

Image

Hubcap

Image

Tomahawk

Image

Terradive

Image

Lockdown

Image

And to top it all off, we have the next Masterpiece figure to come.

Rodimus Prime

Image

Image

Image

For me, the only disappointing line has been Encore, and the sad lack of reissues. Saying that, we are just about to get Predaking! Dying for Dinobots reissues though.

What have been your favourite figures released this year?

It's bizarre, I don't remember a time with so many great toys (I'd have killed for stuff like this as a brat) but I'm so disinclined to buy them.

It's not that they're not lovely, I just think I'm as happy seeing pics of them :)

Cept rodimus though. That will be mine!

I noted interest increased in the toys when Hasbro revisited Generation 1.

I hope they now got the message loud and clear. You can never have enough G1.

If I were Hasbro, in fact, I would market a new toy line called something like New-G1 or G1-4Ever, with all new G1 characters that could then be marketed into IDW's comics. Like Drift. I think it would be a hit, more so than separating the toy entirely into new generations like Animated, Energon, Armada, etc.

Get back to G1, but introduce new characters. Cybertron's a big planet.

Windcharger is love.

I would welcome many repaints of this figure.

I got Breacher today. If you see him, buy him. He's incredible.

I hope Breacher and Straxus are what all future TFs are like. They rival High-Grade Gundams in poseability.

Saw this guy in Toys R Us today:

Though I have a strict policy never to buy ROTF toys, this guy has one of the coolest looking heads I've ever seen on a bot, and I almost caved and bought him.

IDW should bring this guy into the comic somehow.

I saw this **** in Tesco about a month ago, it's what got me back into checking out the toys tbh.

I thought "[composite word including 'f*ck'], he looks the tits" but didn't buy him... no logical reason why.

Now I check for him every ******* time I'm in Tesco. Is he there?

Is he [composite word including 'f*ck'].

So pissed off Kapow sold out of Bludgeon before I got my bursary. About the only Movie tie-in toy I'd ever consider buying.

This may be the most TF I've bought since the 80's.

The great thing about these TFs is... when you look in their eyes and they're looking back in yours... everything... feels... not quite normal. Because you feel stronger and weaker at the same time. You feel excited and at the same time, terrified. The truth is... you don't know what you feel except you know what kind of man you want to be. It's as if you've reached the unreachable and you weren't ready for it.

Nabbed a Straxus today. Finally. And of all places, found him at Kohls.

Oh, and went ahead and bought Breacher. Cool little ****.

So Masterpiece Grimlock. Check. Straxus. Check. Breacher. Check.

Now War for Cybertron Soundwave moves to he top of the list, followed by Generations Kup, Windcharger, and Jazz, followed by all the other Generations toys.

Just got a hail from Uk Toys r Us - not opened them all yet, but so far;

Straxus and WFC Megs are absolutely lovely. Seems mad actually holding a Straxus toy and i think this is the best Megs toy i can remember, certainly the robot mode (altho has cannon is a bit precarious)

Bloody hell! Walked into FP and they had two Straxus.

I nipped downstairs to check out a few comics, went back up 10 mins later and both had gone. Can't believe it.

It's gonna have to be T'r'Us for lil ol me!

Sorry i think i broke the TRU website last week.

Anyone know where i can get the fan project superion bits?

Also, brilliantlly, stuck Fan Project Bruticus Maximis in the kitchen and my girlfriend said it scared her as she "thought it was a spider"

Evidently spiders in my 'hood are pretty well tooled.
