Yeah, it's quite enjoyable, but it's also a 5th of your monthly dose.
Still, it's a billion % better than last months 'dock panto' preview
The biggest problem i have is that they need to find a way to draw a line under all the stupidity of the first 10 issues, as long as we are building on the illogical war is over premise, most characters acting in ways that make little sense, and Spike having a prominat role, things can only improve by so much, and that so much won't get anywhere close to the levels of quality i think the franchise deserves.

I've got a feeling that these first five pages will probably be the best part of the entire issue
I don't see the stupidity end anytime soon if he sticks to his original plans.
Didn't Costa already work everything out till issue 50?Best First wrote:The biggest problem i have is that they need to find a way to draw a line under all the stupidity of the first 10 issues, as long as we are building on the illogical war is over premise, most characters acting in ways that make little sense, and Spike having a prominat role, things can only improve by so much, and that so much won't get anywhere close to the levels of quality i think the franchise deserves.

Reading the topic over at IDW, this is aweome, I don't think I've seen these before: http://forum.idwpublishing.com/viewtopi ... 799#203799
Otherwise it really does seem like a bunch of people agreeing with each other about how bad/decompressed comics are these days

I don't know why anybody bothers to talk sense to the happy clappy twats over there.
IDW could draw Drift talking to his cock for 22 pages and 95% of the dipshits there would hoover it up. Him taking it out would probably encompass a whole 5 page preview.
I've probably just given them enough material for the 10 issues after the 50 already plotted.
"lol! TC <3 Bumblebee, aw!"
"Yeah, sure, it IS ****, but it's better than being killed in a Parisian tunnel so STOP moaning all the time, lol"
"GR8 CHARACTERIZATION, LOL!"
"I like it so stop continuously making valid comments that highlight the massive shortcoming and gaping holes in the flimsy material, because in doing so you're making it apparent to even an oblivious ******* **** like me that... Yep, I might be... probably am a thick as pig **** prat"
****s.

I thought this summed up my feelings nicely:
It's not about decompression. The idea that "decompressed storytelling" is a new phenomenon is ridiculous. Jack Kirby and Stan Lee basically PIONEERED The concept for American concepts way back in their Fantastic Four run, when they started taking two, three or even four issues to tell a story instead of just cramming it all into one issue.
This isn't about decompression as a tool -- it's about basic comic book writing structure. The difference with the Budiansky issue isn't its age, its the fact that he employs basic, competent writing structure.
EAch page is a complete 'idea', each one flows into the next page, and they all are potential climactic points. Any given page of a comic book should be able to be a point where you can cut off the action.
I'll say it again, it's not about decompression. All decompression is, is a term for drawing a story out so that you can focus on the smaller details of the story. What that means is that you can show more of the action, and take time to show how things move from point a. to point b.
The point of decompression is NOT to give the reader less, it's to give the reader MORE.
What Costa is doing isn't decompression, it's stretching. It's padding. Padding an issue so that it will fit the page count is a sign of bad writing. What we're not getting here is more content, that's for sure. Guido's art isn't giving us detailed background or lots of characters moving around, or glimpses into the day-to-day. It's all 3/4 shots of the characters. They're very nice, but they feel like padding.
Padding can work, but this is the thinnest padding I've ever seen.

People who will buy said decompressed comics anyway, for that matter, thus making any of their complaints moot.Metal Vendetta wrote:Reading the topic over at IDW, this is aweome, I don't think I've seen these before: http://forum.idwpublishing.com/viewtopi ... 799#203799

Or do one big poo in the morning and another one in the afternoon. I bet they weren't even excited by and then subsequently disappointed by Star Wars Prequels. Or have a glass full of spare change near their beds. That they don't have.
