Power of the Dark Crystal a go

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Don't know if we have any fans of the original here, but I'm a diehard. It's one of those films, like Raiders of the Lost Ark, Tron, and Clash of the Titans, that helped shape my childhood interests.

A mesh of puppetry/CGI/animatronics in 3-D. Sounds ambitious. [/i]

Really loved the original as a kid, though I have no idea how it stands up today. They don't make kids films like it anymore. Sequel sounds good to me.

Still no Goonies II?

There was a Goonies II:

Okay, so it was for the Game Boy, but technically...

Or do one big poo in the morning and another one in the afternoon. I bet they weren't even excited by and then subsequently disappointed by Star Wars Prequels. Or have a glass full of spare change near their beds. That they don't have.

AND for the Nintendo. Where it was a kick ass game.

Anyway, I liked Dark Crystal as a kid as well. To Yaya's list, I would add Labyrinth and The Last Starfighter in terms of influential 80s movies.

However, if the past decade has taught us ANYTHING, it's that unless it has the words "Directed by Christopher Nolan" in it, be highly dubious of remakes/reimaginings living up to the bar set by the old one.

Flight of the navigator, war games etc...

Dark crystal was brillant, but a remake will suck...

Not really a remake, but a sequel, but yeah, it probably will suck. I hope they recognize the charm of the first in large part was due to the puppetry.

But if it's any consolation, it's a Henson production with Brian Froud back, who was a creator of the first one.

Aye. Excellent movies. And I will add another. The Neverending Story. Watched this with my nephew the other day and he loved it.

This:
www.imdb.com wrote:When asked his feelings about a "Crystal" sequel by the San Francisco Chronicle, Frank Oz had a one-word answer: "Why?"

Rebis and Frank Oz FTW

I got something akin to a warm, fuzzy glow upon reading that.

Oh, don't get me wrong- I'm interested, but I think I'm more fearful than anything else.

Why must all things old be new again? Because there's money in it.

And because we're slaves to nostalgia.

Nothing beats childhood imagination. There simply are no limits. As adults, we're anchored down by reason and experience. Which sucks.

Well, maybe you are. I just consider it an added bonus.
