I was just about to post this.
Bendis writing a Spidey movie?
"Um... well, the thing is, see, I've been like in three movies before. And they were good. I mean mostly good. (Forget the third one for a minute.) Ahem. And see, the thing is--the thing is--now you reboot it! Now you want to #$%&* reboot this $%^&!"

Or do one big poo in the morning and another one in the afternoon. I bet they weren't even excited by and then subsequently disappointed by Star Wars Prequels. Or have a glass full of spare change near their beds. That they don't have.
Why a reboot?
Not that I mind. After that scene in the last movie in that bar with Toby McGuirre prancing around like a pony, Spiderman has never been the same for me.

Talking point:
They would be much better off doing a prime time TV series based around the high school stuff, a la Ultimate Spider-Man or Spectacular Spider-Man, but with real life. If Battlestar Galactica can have Star Wars-level effects, it would not be too hard to make a Spidey series look good. Make J. Straczynski one of the producers, or Brian K. Vaughn. They both have experience in TV.

But if they did a TV series based around the high school stuff, wouldn't it just be promoted as another Disney teen drama (probably as Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane)?bumblemusprime wrote:Talking point:

Just because Smallville and Jeph Loeb sucks doesn't mean that pairing up a successful comic writer with a superhero TV show must by nature blow up in your face. Although I do think caution should most definitely be exercised.
Hell, I'd have no real complaint against a Disney-type teen dramady set up like SMLMJ. Disney's got a machine of marketing evil, but it appears as though I'm too old to get angry about the concept of Mary Jane, teenage supermodel/singer/in love with Spider Man getting as big and as sterile as Lizzy Maguire/Hannah Montana/Wizerdly Place Something/iCarly.
As far as the movie, I was never optimistic or anticipating Spider Man 4. When SM 3 came out, the only justification in my mind for shoving in all the crap they did into one movie was that this was it, the end of the trilogy. Where were you to go in the future with big time Spidey stories, if the Goblin and Venom arcs are already done. Sure, there are more villains, but as Batman showed us, you can't just pop in villains that exist simply to fight in a movie like you can in a comic book. So I was skeptic that they were going to find an idea that was sufficiently palatable to Raimi. And it makes sense that Sony would still go forward, because they think it's going to make a lot of money, and you have to squeeze all the cash you can out of Spidey before it goes to Marvel.

So's who's it going to be? Vulture? Boring. Kraven? Boring. Rhino? Stupid. Electro? Ridiculous mask. Mysterio? Globe head.
As you say, seems like all the good villians have been used.
Wait. Forgot about the Lizard. He might be a good one to go with.

It feels waaay too soon for a reboot. I say again: live-action TV series. TV is better than movies these days anyway.
I mean, you watch two hours of Gladiator and you get spectacle, nice effects, a more or less historical re-creation and larger than life characters. It's very good. However, when Rome did the same thing, we got two years to get more invested in the characters, deepen the conflicts and just feel a richer history. And Rome was not quite as spectacular in the effects division as Gladiator, but it was good enough to really immerse the viewer, and that's what counts.

I'm sure when he finished that last move, the only thing that went through his mind was "Tobey. You are royally ******."

Honestly it was doomed from the beginning. The only more exciting character(s) to introduce than Venom would be Carnage or Kraven, which any director/producer will not be able to do justice for. If they actually follow through with a new spiderman, regardless if its a prequel or continuation, it'll still be mediocre at best.

The Lizard would have been cool. Plus he was mentioned or seen in all of the first three films so they were obviously leading up to him.
I can't see what's wrong with most of the other villains already mentioned either. Or how about the Hobgoblin (bringing some mystery into it) and I think the Black Cat was rumoured.

Considering how many cartoon and comic reboots we've seen plus these movies, this is just going to suck.
