Those pre-Earth modes are kickass. Why couldn't the movie go with something like these?

Actually, since the OP shown here is the same as the recently surfaced grey "Transtech" prototype, this might also well be the new series!
Which is great news - a TWW-styled cartoon would be my dream come true. If only they'd get Simon onboard as well.
Here's the trailer, btw:

It's friggin ACE, IMHO.

Fun. It's on a par with several other never-quite-made-the-big-leagues third person shooters, like Rogue Trooper or Predator. A good game, if a little too generic to stand out among the crowd.
It basically added the ability to not need to jack a vehicle as you would in GTA, instead transforming at will for those hit and run moments that put a smile on your face. Once you got used to the controls it was a good bit of fun.
It wasn't up to much story-wise but then we have a certain expectation I think, that tips the balance there. Most TF stuff doesn't meet the standard hardcore fans like us want. But it certainly entertained me to play it. I was honestly hoping Rebellion would license the TF comics when DW went down actually, since their games based on the 2000AD comics, while not first class games were certainly respectful of the mythos. I expect they'd do a decent job of a TF one given the chance.
Decent review here:

Press release:
TRANSFORMERS™: WAR FOR CYBERTRON EXPLORES A BRAND NEW, PIVOTAL CHAPTER IN TRANSFORMERS LORE
New Action Game Delves Deep into the TRANSFORMERS Universe, Introduces All-New Visualizations of Iconic Characters in 2010
Santa Monica, CA – December 16, 2009 – Experience the legendary battle between the AUTOBOTS and DECEPTICONS as Activision Publishing, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) announced today that Transformers™: War for Cybertron is in development by award-winning High Moon Studios. Based on Hasbro’s legendary TRANSFORMERS property, the game takes players to the TRANSFORMERS characters’ home planet of CYBERTRON for a new look into the epic story of the grand civil war that spawned one of the most brutal rivalries of all time.
“Transformers: War for Cybertron is an origins story, taking players on a gripping, adrenaline-fueled journey that precedes the TRANSFORMERS characters’ arrival on Earth,” said Rob Kostich, head of marketing, licensed products, Activision Publishing, Inc. “The game transports players to a living, metallic planet where they will battle as giant converting robots in single player, online co-op or head-to-head multiplayer matches that are fully immersive from start to finish.”
“For the first time, Hasbro is working with Activision to drive the TRANSFORMERS fiction forward into new story arcs, demonstrating pivotal moments in Transformers history that defined who they are,” said Aaron Archer, Senior Design Director, Hasbro. “This remarkable video game helps us to tell a critical event in TRANSFORMERS lore that will be used as canon for future storylines in a way we could have only dreamed of a few years ago. It is a testament to the success of the TRANSFORMERS brand and a key element to the story we look forward to telling in 2010 and beyond.”
Transformers: War for Cybertron features two distinct storylines: the AUTOBOT campaign tells a story of heroism to save their home planet against overwhelming odds, and the DECEPTICON campaign tells a story of an unquenchable thirst for power to control the universe. For the first time in a TRANSFORMERS title, fans will be able to play the game with their friends through team-based online co-op, or go head to head in a variety of intense, online multiplayer game modes. The game features a sci-fi art style that introduces to fans the entire living, metallic world of CYBERTRON, as well as all-new visualizations of the iconic TRANSFORMERS characters in their original Cybertronian forms.
Transformers: War for Cybertron is in development for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Windows PC, Wii™ and Nintendo DS™, and is not yet rated by the ESRB.

And that right there, my friends, is why The Thirteen was axed by Hasbro.
They have plans, it would appear.

As a game however, the trailer looks pretty slick.

Or have a glass full of spare change near their beds. That they don't have.

From the interviews it seems these folks are very big fans, and they did read the comics - though not the UK ones, otherwise they wouldn't say "Cybertron was not really explored so far in TF media).
Oh and they dropped that "the whole planet is a transformer" so we can expect to hear about Primus. Also, there was talk of a major Con player defecting around the time Starscream joins the Cons - my money is on Grimlock pulling a TWW again.

Trypticon ROCKS. And rolls, I guess. The trailer is awesome, gives a great TWW vibe.
Someone also discovered the Wrecker symbol on the tower the bots are fighting at... someone looked up the wiki, I guess.
Although apparently Shockwave is not in the game, or at least doesn't play a major part. Heresy!

That game definitely looks sweet! Speaking as someone who didn't play any of The Movie games, how did they handle flying there? It's one thing to make a good action shooter, it's another to incorporate driving in it (which the PS2 game did poorly), it's a whole other thing to have a game engine that incorporates both PLUS flying well, and the games that do so (Halo, Battlefield) are usually legendary.

It was horrible. You had to press the left mouse button and KEEP it Pressed, to transform, and depending on the force of the pressure, you went faster or slower, trying to steer with the mouse. But you couldn't stop, you kept on flying forward no matter what. Since the jets fly really fast, and the levels have invisible walls, it meant with Starscream or Breakaway you have crossed the whole place in a few seconds, and you hardly have time to aim when flying over enemies.Shanti418 wrote:That game definitely looks sweet! The same issue was with cars, there is no brake, you speed onwards as soon as you transform. The only guy whom you could control normally was Grindor, as he hovers in copter mode by default, and you can control altitude and move around in all directions with keys and the mouse.

Yeah i thought that - a transforming environment as well as beings.Impactor returns 2.0 wrote:If they churned out animation like that for a TV series id be watching!Best First wrote:even if it's only the trailer that's any good, i still enjoyed watching that.
One thin I did like was the way the roads transformed into existance, I never considered that before, nice ideas!
Interview i read (which i can't find the link to - soz) which suggests that it's not GoW themed even tho that has been suggested in a few places - just the same game engine - i believe the quote was "Can you see Megatron taking cover"?
anyway - a way off yet.

Well, the intro-movie keeps getting better, that's for sure!
Those Blur-guys are quite talented lads, I must say.
So... do we know when any we'll see any gameplay, or even any game-stills? E3 or somethin'? When is that, btw...
EDIT: Never mind... here's some stills, yes?

This game is scary. I'm worried that it's going to be so big and do so many things right that whatever it does wrong will become regarded as 'right' for a long time afterwards.
On the one hand, if it eclipses the look of the films in terms of the image of TFs in the public conscience, hurrah.
On the other, we might be stuck with dull versions of Bumblebee and Ratchet forever: pipsqueak with a big heart and the stalwart medical officer.
Plus, however great it is, however gorgeous it looks, it you have to spend most of the game playing as Prime or Megatron, I'll be cheesed off. No 'couch' multiplayer is also a turn-off - I'm not big on online gaming.
