Transformers Continuum

Post by Yaya » Sun Nov 08, 2009 4:46 am

Just caught some of the preview pages of this.

This is great. Look how the events of M:O are recapped and phrased:

"With records from the Great War scattered and incomplete, little is known for sure. It is believed that Megatron was a slave...

"Another form of recruitment may have come from battling in gladitorial-style matches".

"Sentinel Prime, it is said, challenged Megatron.."

:D Very clever. Leave it open to interpretation. I give IDW credit there.

"But the Costa story featuring Starscream? Fantastic! This guy is "The One", I just know it, just from these few pages. "--Yaya, who is never wrong.

"Starcream, Thundercracker and Skywarp were noble..."

WTF? Please repeat that. Since when? I wish Costa and Shame would start handling the seekers as they have always been handled. Let's face it, Skywarp and TC are thugs at worst, elite warriors at best, but they are nowhere in the Con hierarchy. Yet they are always given spotlight as if they were the next Shockwave... Why? Oh yeah. Sunbow fanbase...

Andy Schmidt (w)

I take your point though. Skywarp being the hardest to find nobility in...

What is TF: Continuum?

It's "The Definitive Chronology"

A one-off that summarises all that has happened in the IDWverse to date.

Except that it doesn't appear to begin at the beginning, in-universe-wise (i.e. Megatron:Origin not Nova Prime-era), and will probably end up missing out the entire Dead Universe stuff.

And as for retconning M:O as "open to interpretation", that's hardly inspirational. They'll probably have some kind of "it was war, no one knows what really happens in the heat of battle" cop-out for AHM too.

I sure as hell hope so. Cop-out or not, sweep that **** under the rug and start anew, please.

They should go one further and have all the TFs wake up at the start of Ongoing #1 with their memory of the last four years erased.

say make it a legend rather than fact

"They say Megatron came from nowhere, a humble worker rising through the games to eventually fell a Prime. That's what they say, but the truth... the truth is somewhat different"
Hehe. Looks like IDW listened to you, BF.

So EJ Su is now drawing the ongoing and it is being co-written by Furman and Roche?

They listened to the wrong bit the tw@ts!

Damnit.

Edit-

Two other things;

re; Skywarp being 'Noble' it means he was part of high society, not of noble spirit - just because you have status does not neccessarily mean you are a thug so i think that bit is fine - it should possibly say "Nobles" rather than noble.

This is a good example of the kind of thing Marvel give away for free before an event or a character relaunch - sadly i doubt IDW are in a position to do the same thing but it would work great.

A review of Continuum:

http://tformers.com/reviews.php?op=showcontent&id=1100

The most glaring error is the continual confusion of Skywatch, and The Machination. Continuum seems to say they are the same organization.
Wow.

If that's the case, the fallout from fans from this issue is going to be ugly.

I didn't really care for Skywatch or the Machination myself, but this again could be a major editorial blunder if true.

Heh, beat me to it.

But that IDW apparently emailed Walky about a parody comic? Not even Pat Lee did that, and Shortpacked made fun of him in a much more severe way... :o

Nah. Tis satire. Hence all the typos and the "that part is true" about his wife. :)

Good grief what a mess. Andy Schmidt is rapidly becoming a great way to describe these books in rhyming slang...

Just read this "summary" of events issue.

Seriously, I've read every IDW issue to date, and all this thing did was confuse the hell out of me.

I don't even want to think about how confusing a newbie would be.

I'm pretty sure the creators half way through this came to the realization that one of the problems with how they've handled Transformers thus far has been the mucking up of the timeline and where events fit into the scheme of things. It's a clusterfock. Well and truly, a clusterfock.

I feel sorry for Schmidt and Costa, actually. To make sense of the past is just impossible at this point. I just hope fans can understand this and give these guys a break with regards to jiving with the past.

Best to look at this new direction as a complete reboot, if you're a fan or a creator. It will be less painful that way.

This is just fragging idiotic. I have no better words for it...

And at least now I have a face to match the name Andy Schmidt. KInd of what I expected to see...

Also, no Galvatron until 2011. Bummer. But at least we'll see Metroplex again next year.

Wow, such respect for the more junior reader...

Also - seems a bit unfair to essentially say that people "didn't understand" who it was intended for - probably shouldn't have been sold as "an essential guide for every TRANSFORMERS fan!" eh? Can't have it both ways.

He really couldn't have made himself sound like a more pompous, arrogant, condescending prick. He must have been trying pretty hard to convey that.
