Rafa pwns Federer...again

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Rafa pwns Federer...again

Post by Yaya » Sun Feb 01, 2009 11:51 pm

Did anybody see that emotional breakdown by Fed after losing at the Australian?

I'm a Rafa fan, but I felt real bad for Roger.

Hope he breaks Pete's record now.

Anyway, VAMOS RAFA!!

I dunno...

Well, for a start, I always like the underdog to win, and as ridiculous as it sounds I think Nadal was just about the underdog. Don't think he is anymore though...

I like to see real competition in sports, it gets really samey and frustrating when somebody is winning with no challenge.

So I was glad Rafa won, but most of my mates with any interest wanted Roger to win... I dunno why.

They all think he's this top bloke, well, maybe he is...

Thing is, he was always really cool about stuff when he was demolishing all and sundry, but Since Murray stepped up to the plate and Nadal started to dominate, he's been more then rattled and more then a little snide at times.

Its fine to be the charmer when you're winning, but I think the mark of a proper gent, a person I'd feel sorry for in their defeat, is a magnanimous loser... And for me, he sure aint.

And some people argue that you shouldn't be a magnanimous loser... Cause it's a show of weakness, etc...

or whatever...

Well, I disagree about that. Expecting to win every time is just ****** unrealistic. Being humble, showing a bit of humility and realising you're not cool with that but that the person that has beaten you deserves all plaudits... that is the mark of a proper man, IMO.

And I'm not saying Federer isn't humble etc... But as I said, he certainly seems a lot more snappy, argumentative etc now he isn't having it all his own way.

Snarlzz, for once, we are 100% on the same page.

It really bothered me to see Federer year after year get the Sportsmanship Award in tennis. I always felt Rafa should have been given that honor because he knew how to lose like a champion.

The few times Federer lost during his domination, he never really credited his opponent. When Rafa was kicking his ass even then, he would say things like "Rafa is one-dimensional" during the press conferences after losing to him.

I used to think "is anybody listening to this guy" before they hand him the sportmanship trophy?

As you accurately point out Snarlzzz, Federer has become more and more of a big baby.

He needs to learn how to lose graciously. Give some ****** credit where credit is due.

When asked if Nadal is tough in a fifth set after he got his ass handed to him yet again, his answer? "Like many guys on the tour".

Murray has beaten Roger four times in a row. Does he give the guy credit? Nope. Just comments like "he doesn't deserve to be the favorite here in Australia."

You're dead on, Fed is scared of Murray. He's been discrediting the guy for a reason. He's ****** scared of him.

As well he should be. In my mind, both those guys are favorites to win when they play Fed now.

Did you witness that ridiculous breakdown by Roger during the trophy ceremony?

Nah, I lobbed the tv off and went for a ride, my mate told me to get it back on but I couldn't be arsed.

Sounds bizarre...

Dunno if I would have laughed or cringed to be honest.

See, here's why I like Rafa.

He was hurt in the final of Rotterdam today against Murray, and instead of retiring, he wanted to give his opponent a sense of victory, so he just lost the last set to Andy 6-0.

That's class.
