Q&A from Simon at IDW Forum!

Post by Yaya » Sat Dec 06, 2008 10:52 pm

Mostly exciting news, but some not so exciting news.

Not so exciting news:
7. Simon, quite a few people (Brett_bass, Commander Shockwav amongst others) have asked if there has been any collaboration or communication between yourself and Shane McCarthy, regarding All Hail Megatron and December’s “Maximum Dinobot’s” – so, I guess one of the big questions is – has there?

SF) The short answer is “no.” Shane’s taken his leap forward and pretty much rolled from there. My job has mostly been to tie up my own storylines, though I will be leaping back into the fray for another more ongoing Spotlight soon. In the end, apart from tying things up in Maximum Dinobots, Revelation and maybe another arc, it’s down to IDW editorial (that’s you, Denton!) to make sure the two bits stick together with minimum join showing, and Denton does seem to be keeping a careful eye on things.
Firstly, that jackass Commander Shockwav finally asked a decent question. Secondly, you have two writers writing for the same continuity....and they don't communicate. At least not directly.

I mean, okay, Denton's the middle man, but can one guy get them on the same page and coordinate effectively? That's an almost impossible task.

Then again, I guess Joe Q does it. It's really up to Denton now to keep Shane and Simon on the same page, and not incur the wrath of the fandom.
The Quintessons do have a big role to play,
Not too keen on seeing the Quints myself. Was hoping we could have avoided that. But I guess if the Matrix is in play, so too has to be the Quints. And the Junkions, etc. etc. etc.

The exciting news, IMO:
After I wrap Maximum Dinobots, the next thing, Transformers-wise, is a series I pitched to Denton that is suitably epic and sweeping but doesn’t clash with what Shane is doing over on All Hail Megatron at all. It’s still core continuity, spinning out of characters and situations in my ‘ongoing’ run, but kind of has its own distinct framework. It also promises to introduce a character in the IDW/TF-verse I honestly didn’t think we’d get to, but fits here. Oh, and I have a new Spotlight tentatively scheduled as well,
After Max Dino's, we have another story from Simon spinning off from that as well as some potential spotlights.

Other things. The Thirteen, also written by Simon, will like have the Liege Maximo, Vector Prime, and Alpha Trion.

Simon will be writing the movie adaption for Revenge of the Fallen.
"But the Costa story featuring Starscream? Fantastic! This guy is "The One", I just know it, just from these few pages. "--Yaya, who is never wrong.

I'm glad Furman is still involved, reading this makes me feel very sad though. I would have killed for a Ultra Magnus VS Galvatron rematch that he intended in Revelations...especially if it was drawn by EJ Su.

Bit Worried about the continuity thing. AHM does seem to avoid most of the ground work Simon has built up, whereas he plans to continue with it.

Read the comments on TFW2005, interestingly enough EVERY one there says that AHM should be in an alternate universe or, in due time, it will be forgotten like certain Spiderman story alternations...

Anyway, I can't wait for the 13. It appears Maximo, Vector Prime and A3 are confirmed. Hasbro is involved - I just hope they don't push in the Collector's club Combiner. Stupid idea and bad-looking toy.

What was that? 13 TFs that combined to form a single gestalt, or something? How would that have worked? 2 for each limb, 4 in the torso and one for the head?

You know that sound much more interesting than the actual reality... :)

Nothing so spectacular - there are five, translucent blue/red/yellow (garish coloring, I say) Energon Combiner repaints (randomly chosen from the three Energon Gestalts) and supposedly they are the divided essence of one of the 13. I haven't read all the comics to know more, but I think 3 or 4 have already appeared in the comic.

That interview was so f888ing depressing.

He was obviously shunted aside, and was seeding all sorts of cool stuff.
