hmm, my concerns for this increase slightly.
i LOVE GGs previous work but much like the previously released Seeker page this looks a bit Pat Lee-esque - i mean the Constructicons almost look like they are having group sex in their attempt to get in that panal and shoot humans.
Not to mention there doesn't look to have been any attempt to update their designs which i find a little dissapointing.
Basically both preview pages so far have looked very retrotastic and quite cartoony which doesn't seem to align with the approach IDW have generally been taking (artist insertions in Megs: Origin aside), an approach i have liked a lot (creative insertions in Megs: Origin aside).
Obvioulsy not seen any words yet and there is supposed to be an 8 page preview in Focus: On which may change my impression but my initial reaction is one of mild concern.

My initial thoughts on the (new) AHM page are pretty much "hmm...". On current evidence, this would make Furman's current TF work look like Alan Moore's greatest works of art (V for Vendetta, Watchmen and Miracleman).
Again, here we have Decepticons, in their 80's togs, going on their sunday stroll shooting stuff (EXCEPT SOME FLESHIES GET KILLED ON THIS PAGE!). And Long Haul and Mixmaster shooting into the air just sums this page up.
Hang on! Why do the Constructicons even have Earth modes if this is supposed to be an invasion? And shouldn't they be coloured like proper construction stuff if they had to adapt Earth modes anyway? What? Oh...

If one year has passed since Devastation it makes sense that they called the Cons master builders to Earth, but it is strange that the Cons just sat there for a year and didn't already took over Earth.
Also doesn't anyone think the big Megs should be already on his way to a new planet? I mean Ore-13 is nice, but he can always leave some loyal Con there like Razorclaw and continue on his merry campaign of conquest.
The weird 'downgrade' of the seekers and Constructicons to G1 modes does bother me. I love Guido's art, he drew G1 back then at DW just like it was from the cartoon, but here his characters are too balooney and the G1 cartoon look just isn't detailed enough, especially after EJ's new designs. Note that Megs is in his Walther P38 mode as well...
One more cause to worry - why are the cons even bothering to attack humans? They considered them barely noticeable (see Megs looking down at Verity like at a bug) and the whole disguise thing was more because they didn't want the Bots to notice their presence here. Also I'm 95% betting the seeker page will have Thundercracker quoting his tech spec and having doubts about attacking innocents. Yawn.
I guess it really all boils down to this question: How come Furman doesn't get a one-year long story arc, but a relative newcomer does?

"I've come to believe you are working for the enemy, Vervain. There is no other explanation... for your idiocy." (General Woundwort)
Won't judge based on two pages, but it's a drastic change from what we've seen so far.
Change for the better or change for the worse?
That's the question.
McCarthy better be better than good.
This just in: interview ith McCarthy about AHM

Loving the sound of this. In particular, his statement about characters driving the story.

That's a damn good question. Talk about taking a risk!I guess it really all boils down to this question: How come Furman doesn't get a one-year long story arc, but a relative newcomer does?

"But the Costa story featuring Starscream? Fantastic! This guy is "The One", I just know it, just from these few pages. "--Yaya, who is never wrong.
May have answered your own question there. One bug is nothing to write home about, but a swarm of 6 billion, that's the time for pest control.BB Shockwave wrote:One more cause to worry - why are the cons even bothering to attack humans? I haven't seen or heard enough to fairly judge, but McCarthy talks about a fresh direction to the IDWverse. sadly this is not yet something I want to buy into, as the old direction was fantastic and all fits together so well.
I'm a bit gutted for Furman really. I bet he had a lot of stories planned that he probably wont be able to tell because McCarthy comes in and swipes it aside with what is potentially a big fan-wank.

I hope this isn't the case. There is no reason why Simon and McCarthy can't work side by side.Hound wrote: I'm a bit gutted for Furman really. Which I think is what they are doing. Shane will be covering what's happening on Earth, while Simon will at the same time be covering what's going down between the Autobots, Banzaitron and his secret service, the fallout from the Dead Universe, the quest for combiner technology, etc. with the coming Revelations arc + the eight issues to follow. When last I checked, 4+8=12, so I think they will both be authoring one year long arcs in different parts of the TF Universe.
In other words, we will get our cake and eat it too.

Well I do hope this is the case, however the 'shrinking' of Revelations from a 6 issue series to 4 spotlights makes me assume otherwiseYaya wrote:I hope this isn't the case. On the face of it, I am far more interested in the Jhiaxus experiments, Scorponok and his plans with the Machination, Galvatron's hidden agenda, The Magnificence, Dealer playing both sides, the fallout of the dead universe, the quest for combiner tech etc than I am about a year long slog between Earth and the Decepticons.
I wonder how Sunstreaker, The Dinobots and Hotrod will play into this story given they were left behind on Earth. Blaster could potentially show up given his vendetta against Soundwave.
