If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Why couldn't it be Tom's wife that got shot in the face?
It would've been so awesome and totally unexpected.

Philip Seymour Hoffman ******* deserved to kill her. He was bad ass! One of the best villains I've seen.

Image

Are there any movies out there where the villain actually succeeds with something really evil, like killing the good guys children or something? (don't you dare mention that Bond movie where his wife gets killed)

P.S I hate Tom Cruise.

Don't arnie's wife and kid die in Collatoral Damage? Then he goes on a mission of REVENGE. I think, i ain't watched it.

Luke's Aunt and Uncle get laser beamed, like, to death, in a New Hope.

I assume the Punisher movie opens with his family getting f**ked up. Again, not seen it.

Thing is the bad guy always gets it in the end. The worse case of course being Star Wars where the karma from Vadar's actions was so bad that they created a whole new series of movies just to show what a total c-unit he was a as a kid.

darkest one i can think of on this front is Leon - Portman's entire family including her baby bro get wasted, and while Oldman gets taken out he kills the 'hero' before he goes. That is one quality film my friend.

Oh, and that James Bond one where his wife dies.

In other news i have heard that Tom Cruise has locked himself in a cuboard in a small town in Colorado.

Gotta be said, the opening scene of Mission Impossible 3 is classic.

not in my world.

In my world the box has a cake in it and a note that says "sorry".

But the cake has marzipan which Brad f*cking hates so he shoots Verbal in the face.

damn you marzipan.

And, not on film, in real life.

As do I. Although, I will watch Top Gun, Days of Thunder and Legend.

Hopefully, he'll bum John Travolta while simultaneously ushering their thetans into the next lives in some horrible way.

As well as his wife there's a cliche in Bond films that he makes one really good new friend who is then brutally killed making the mission personal (because saving the world isn't enough motive).

What happens to Felix in Liscence to Kill should be horrific and shocking but is somehwat undone by the forced happy ending ("Hey james, lets go fishing and forget my wife was raped and murdered whilst my leg was eaten!").

Watching Leon again the other night I realised he *had* to die at the end, there was no way he could have survived and followed the rules of film-making. And it's such a damn fine ending as well, Gary Oldman is such a **** in that film.

How about the Crow? Both Eric and Shelly die pretty gruesomely and at the end he's still dead. And in real life too :(
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

In the book Leon, Leon um ****s Portman...

Anyhows, Punisher is a great film, the opening sequence shows Jhons entire family, about 100 or so women and kids, sons and fathers all get butchered.

******* ace - then it payback.

I thought MI3 was *****, didnt see the point in the plot, where was the 'impposible mission' - and the bad guy was just meh, he was about as scary as a ******* mouse.

That bit where he threterns to kill toms wife, if tom was any sort of Ninja britich agent, he would have realised his wifes eyes had changed colour for starters.
Then, calmly said, if u shoot her, ill never tell you anything.

Dont beg with the man, thats what he wants.

And the ending, where tom kills the bad guy, im redy for a big fight, but tom kills him in about 2 seconds, dull...

Top-Gun is good, MI2&3 are ******* ****.

He was even due to get married, too.

But yeah, seriously, The Crow gets massive points for killing just about everybody, including the hero, and still making it a happy ending.

I just felt he was a bully, hiding behind some fancy weapons.

I didnt feel threaterned by him, he didnt really do anything, exceot threatern to kill toms wife. Why should I be worried.

If you take a bond villian, they begin by blowing loads of innocent ppl up, killing someone in cold blood or doing somthing else equally nasty, which builds suspense. or at least it does in decent bond films.

I have a reason to think these men are cold ruthless. In comparison, the guy in MI3 was just a backyard bully. the min Tom got to him he was dead in about 30 secs, and we all knew he would be. i didnt feel slightly threaterned by him at all.

If he had shot Toms wife 20 times in the face, beaten tom to a pulp, and luaghed at him i might have been worried but he didnt.

Oh, I mostly laugh at Bond movies since they are so god damn ridiculous.

Driving around in a car that's been cut in half? [composite word including 'f*ck'] you Bond, [composite word including 'f*ck'] you.

I dont get the logic, take MI, or Bourne, or xXx for that matter, they all have moments that are impposible or silly - Bond does them with class tho, and thats the difference between them all.

Especially as we've all seen the Top Gear where Clarkson's stretch Panda fell apart and he was just driving the front around.

If it's good enough for Clarkson, it's good enough for Bond.

I only watched the first Mission Impossible, the other 2 just parts. I found insulting that Phelps was a traitor and that it became a solo act for Tom, when it was always a team effort that solved the cases.

Now is only "see what can I do and how cool I do it"

Huge bonus points for featuring the Zeddmore himself - Ernie Hudson, as well. "I love this town!"

Thankfully MI:3 came out after I had instigated my "never watch another movie with Tom Cruise in it again" policy, so I have no idea what the rest of you are talking about :D :D :D

(I did cave in to watch War of the Worlds :(  but at least it served as a good reminder as to why I instigated the policy in the first place)

Favourite Bond film continues to be Goldeneye though. Absolute perfection from start to finish. Especially the totally unnecessary shot of Iza Scorupco's crotch in a bikini.

"For England, James?"

It's silly because Bond is so ******* over the top all the time.
He drives around in his half car - he ******* parks it on a bridge - at the very second he parks it on the bridge there's a boat with a wedding going under it - he jumps down on the boat with the wedding and sort of lands in the cake (if I remember correctly) - tied to the big wedding boat is a smaller motor boat which Bonds steals so he can chase the bad guy.
Me and my mate were both going "This is some silly ******* ****." (I believe he also at some point in the movie drove a motor cycle, a fire tuck and probably also used some sort of flying transportation).

Add to that all the awful villains he has fought, like Goldfinger and Oddjob.
Goldfinger dips ladys in gold or whatever - and Obbjob has a tophat that can decapitate statues.

I don't get why you're comparing Bond to those movies (it's not like I like those movies or anything), but here we go:
The MI movies are nothing special.
The first Bourne is quite all right. The seond one is **** (and I haven't seen the third)
xXx is ******* **** (all of them).

Bond and the other movies listed above are silly and brain dead movies that you forget ten minutes after you've seen them.
The only movie I would pay money to see would be the first Bourne.
I'd rather take a **** in my mouth than watch another Bond movie though, 'cause those are the worst.

If people called Bond "fun, brain dead entertainment" I wouldn't mind.
But people are treating Bond like it's a holy cow or something. I can not for the life of me understand how anyone can find Bond exciting.
It's just silly ****!

IMO of course ;)

This is the truth.

However, I dare anyone to watch Dr. No and keep a straight face. Forget Austin Powers, this is the real deal and if anything, it's funnier for it. A villain with metal claws because he "lost his hands to radiation", immensely proud of his fishtank with convex glass to make the fish look bigger, who has a plan to "topple American rockets" although it's never really explained...add into that Bond's casual racism - at one point he takes his shoes off and just gives them to the black dude to carry - and the ridiculous quasi-futuristic clothes...it's an absolute winner for sure.

How Myers thought joke names like Felicity Shagwell could stand up to Bond's Pussy Galore is beyond me as well.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!
