Been thinking about my TF fanfic ideas lately, and it got me to wondering: is it sometimes better to leave origins unrevealed? Basically, I've been trying for quite a while to think of an origin for the TFs in "my" universe, and I have yet to think of something that I find satisfying.
For some reason, though I'm a fan of stuff like Warhammer 40K, I have a hard time with the idea of "gods" (specifically Primus and Unicron as gods) in a TF story. Recently, though, I've toyed with the idea of Primus and Unicron, and by extension TF sparks, as captive elemental spirits of sorts. A recent discussion with a co-worker got me to thinking that maybe leaving the origin unrevealed may be the way to go, seeing as how many times in comics and movies an attempt to reveal an origin doesn't go over well.
It occurs to me (as I'm typing) that even though the origin may be unrevealed in the story, that having a pretty good idea of what I want the origin to be would be a benefit in writing the story.
Any thoughts?
To origin or not to origin...
