Goodbye Piccadilly

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Goodbye Piccadilly

Post by Metal Vendetta » Mon Oct 22, 2007 10:01 am

Went for a job interview on Saturday, and got it. I'll be travelling the world (Singapore, Hong Kong, Buenos Aries, Toronto and New York were mentioned) and programming on the fly (perhaps literally). I have about a month and a half left in London. I'm a bit scared but very excited - it's an opportunity I can't really pass up. Can't really say much about what the work will entail except that it's to do with social networking, and some of the big boys (Microsoft, AOL) are involved.

So the countdown starts here. Gotta ditch my car, move out of my flat etc. And you can guarantee there's going to be a massive party at the Hilldrop before I leave. All welcome :)

Sounds very exciting! Will you be able to tell more in the future, or is it all top-secret?

Congrats for getting the job :)

Well I've got the car sorted now, and I've started packing away the Cybertronians and comics that litter my abode. Got some storage sorted too. Gonna miss this place (been living here 4 years now) though I certainly won't miss the chavs who tried to kick our door in at 2am Sunday morning.

I'm putting a bunch of stuff aside for ebaying purposes but I'll probably list some of it here if I think you guys will want first dibs on it...
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

Congrats, MV! :)

Hope you'll stay here and update us about your adventures around the globe (I've always wanted to go to Toronto) :)

Good luck!

So if you're moving out, does that mean you'll be a nomad?

Like The Doctor?
Or Malcolm Reynolds?
Or Bruce Banner?
Or The Cybertronian Race in the IDW comics?
Or Marvin Gaye / Paul Young (dependent on personal preference)?
Or The Littlest Hobo?

Well, congratulations MV. :)

I must say, you are a lot braver than me, taking such a job, but then again you wouldn't be an international man of mystery if you weren't, now would you? ^^

I didn't know you were a programmer? Where did you use to work before this big job? Any place we'd happen to recognize..?

Funnily enough, our codename for this little project is "Geek Nomad", so, er, yes I suppose I will.

And I'm going to walk the Earth, you know, like Caine in Kung Fu :D

Until recently I worked for Sybase, I dunno if you know it.

You gonna have a base for touching at some point?

I had indeed never heard of Sybase, but apparently according to themselves they are biggest company in the world when it comes to databases and networks for companies and such?

Be well, mate. And take the time now and then when you're on the job to sneak a quick post here on Transfans. ^^

just drink a lot of scotch, that should take care of the terrifiedness! ;)

The worst parts are the take-off and landing.

As long as those go ok, the rest of the flight should take care of itself. :)

Take care! :)

Get some nice music on your mp3 player and drink camomille tea to relax. And read a nice book.

Have fun in Buenos Aires!
