Transformers/New Avengers #4 (SPOILERS)

Post by Yaya » Tue Oct 16, 2007 12:34 pm

Read it.

What the f### was that???

And acid trip, I hope.

It was cool for about one or two issues to see these guys all on the same pages, but then it spiralled down into the proverbial crossover dump, reaching a nadir with this fourth issue which was downright laughable.

And the bots looked awful!

I give this issue an "D-", and that only because my expectations were low and it pretty much met those expectation.

Oh, and for the Marvel #3 reference with Megs and Spiderman. That was the only nice part about it.

yeah, total utter garbage.

Love the way Ops and Meg just seem to stand around chatting or staring blankly half the time.

And Iron Man's dialogue - jeez.

Amazingly bad

I give it a "Z-"

Yeah!

Totally forgot about that.

Page 1:
Megatron: "I'm going to destroy you Optimus...but at a time of my choosing."
Prime: "Good, because I'm seriously damaged, even though I look fine".

Page2:
Megatron: "You look defenseless, standing there. Someday, I will destroy you Prime. Could that time be now? No. It will be sometime later. "
Prime: "We'll see about that. When I get better, you're in trouble"

Page 10
Megatron: (staring at Prime)
Prime: (staring at Megatron)

End of issue:
Megatron: "Your fellow Autobots are creating some resistence. Perhaps if they lost their leader...........when he is defenseless......sometime.....in the future!"
Prime: "That's a date, Megatron. Just you and me. When I get better."

I think I'm going to have fun with this issue.

For me that was one of two cool moments in this issue,
Best First wrote:And Iron Man's dialogue - jeez.
second being Megs' response to that stuff about house and metal: "You speak nonsense..."
Yaya wrote:Megatron: "You look defenseless, standing there. Someday, I will destroy you Prime. Could that time be now? No. It will be sometime later."
To be fair, I think what he meant here was that first he'll kill Avengers, then Autobots and will save Prime for the end.

It was terrible, wasn't it?

What happened to Dr. Doom? Was he lobotomised behind the scenes in issue 3? This issue his dialogue sounds like it's coming from the special kid at school. "Doom does not explain his actions"...sheesh!
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

And he was true to his word too, cause by series end we have no freakin clue why he did what he did...whatever it was he was doing this series.

And what about Ramjet? He shows up in three panels the entire series just to play the Starscream role?

Did anyone else understand what was being said at the end of the issue regarding the Avengers plane being of Cybertronian design? Wolverine was sniffing around like he usually does, commenting that the plane isn't their plane. Am I reading that right?

See?

The level of crapitude was so akin to the G.I.Joe crossovers, I really thought that's what I was reading.

OKay, this sounds so bad I'm going to buy it.

Sort of like my urge to watch Ghost Rider.

Well, I only got through this for the comedy, and it certainly did its job on that score.

Someone better put in "The madness begins/Continues/Finally ends..." in their reviews because this series warrants it!

So I just got this in TPB, going in knowing that everyone thought it was utter trash, but I still LIKE Transformers and New Avengers, and it's only 10 bucks, so why not?

And thus I was pleasently surprised by it. The writing was crap, as others have said, and the bot characterization was straight out of Cartoonville (hell, the whole "X lets us have even betterer Energon and superer powers" bit is also straight out of the cartoons), but it still was Spider Man and Wolvering et al messing around with Transformers. Given the shallow story and characters, it seemed like it was aimed at a slightly younger audience, like a Marvel Adventures book or something.

But I DID like how it crossed over with the IDW TF storylines, with Ramjet and such. It wasn't much else but superfluos references to things, but it was better than nothing.

And I thought the art was pretty good. I liked the classic Autobots and the retro boxy Optimus Prime. Good times. Although that cover to issue #2 is probably the worst thing I've ever seen on a cover to a comic book.
