I mean during that scuffle in the beginning at autobot city. Was it every put out there and set in stone exactly what the death toll, and who, it was?

It's been a matter of some debate for years.
Here's the best I can do off the top of my head:
Prowl, Ratchet and Ironhide died in the shuttle. Brawn did too, except that some elements of the fandom like to think that he wouldn't die from a shoulder wound, so there is a case for him surviving, though it's very slim.
Wheeljack and Windcharger are shown dead. As far as I can tell, that's the last time they are seen alive.
Huffer is shown on Earth before the attack and on Prime's shuttle after the attack. He's also mentioned in Dark Awakening as one of the Autobots who died in the attack, though his is the only death we don't see. See TMUK's The Last Days of Huffer for more details.
Optimus Prime died. And then came back. Twice.
Thundercracker, Skywarp, Bombshell, Shrapnel and Kickback all got reformatted into Cyclonus, Scourge and the Sweeps, and possibly Armada, but it's anyone's guess as to who got made into who.
Megatron => Galvatron, obviously.
Starscream died at the hands of Galvy, but later returned as a ghost.

I believe the official line is literally the entire previous set of toys, so that would be all the Autobot cars bar Jazz, the original three seekers, Prime and Megs obviously, some of soundwave's cassettes etc (I don't think we see Laserbeak again).
I had a quote from Budiansky in a previous topic (I could dig it up if anyone's interested) that they originally penned a final charge for the Autobots and they all got wiped out by the Cons, but it was cut due to being a bit too much for a kids show.
Of course there are instances of previous toys which were no longer continued turning up in the cartoon (Rumble I think puts in an appearance at some point for example) but I think the general line is that anything which didn't appear in a toy catalogue after a certain point was meant to have snuffed it.
In terms of onscreen deaths I think emvee nailed it already.

You have to admire Budiansky's utter attitude of disinterest-Impactor returns 2.0 wrote:That would have been the best thing ever!Karl Lynch wrote:I had a quote from Budiansky in a previous topic (I could dig it up if anyone's interested) that they originally penned a final charge for the Autobots and they all got wiped out by the Cons, but it was cut due to being a bit too much for a kids show.
"We need to elminate these characters."
"Fine. {scribbles} They run towards the Decepticons and all get shot"
TBH I used to quite like the guy, he was cool towards TFs but considering the stick he's got over the years I don't blame him. I've turned off him massively since he was hired back to do more TF comics (the movie comic thingy) and STILL had zero interest in them. The bloke obviously doesn't give a toss, so A. why hire him and B. why did he agree to do it??

Argh, actually I got the Huffer bit wrong - we see him on Earth alongside Sunstreaker, who later turns up on Prime's shuttle. In TLDOH Huffer pushes Sunny through a warp portal so he can escape to the moonbase, while Huffer stays behind to fight the Decepticons...
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

Season 3 was terrible sometimes, they kept showing the Insecticons back, or you'd see Prowl suddenly there.
I guess in theory the Insecticons could be around... if they still had clones wandering about or if their clones got reformatted...
I don't know why you had to 'kill' off the old guys, since Season 3 was mostly on Cybertron/Char/Outer Space, etc. Anyway, they could've just left them all on Earth alive and well out of the way somewhere.

IMHO, the only fatal casualties of the movie were:
The Autobot shuttle crew (definitely IronHide, Megs vaped his head. The others might have been repairable i suppose, depending on how badly the shuttle crashed after the Con's began the attack on Autobot City - although in the original comic adapation, we see the Con's actually bother to land the shuttle too!) ;-)
Those 'cons who were reformatted - effectively dead.
Prime - for what's it worth...
We didn't see anyone else die...
Infact, quite a few of the '84/'85 bots appeared in Headmasters too... got to love the Japanese series'.

And Wheeljack later appeared in an episode of Victory...Ozz wrote:Windcharger appeared somewhere in Season 3.

This topic certainly grew while I was sleeping.
I think the real question is what happened to Reflector.
I think Laserbeak appeared in Call of the Primitives along with Ravage(who Beast Wars tells us didn't die). It's possible Rumble and Frenzy(maybe Buzzsaw) died, but I think it's more likely they were never needed again for onscreen missions and possibly retired.Karl Lynch wrote:...some of soundwave's cassettes etc (I don't think we see Laserbeak again).
