If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

I like cricket.

Sport doesn't get much more gladitorial than when a batsman and bowler face off against each other in the heat of the moment.

Other than boxing obviously.

Or wrestling.

Or judo.

Or...er, cock fighting.

Even better tho, it lasts five days. Mint.

Cricket is great, but only when you're playing in the back garden against someone's little sister and you can really belt it...

Generally sport bores the hell out of me anyway though. I wish they'd have just a competition to decide who is the best once and for all and then everyone will know that, say, Manchester United is the best football team, and then they wouldn't have to play any more.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

It's sport, which in my book means it might be enjoyable to do but I'm not going to enjoy watching it.

That's what I've never understood about your country: It dismisses (proper) football as a ladies' game... yet everybody gets excited about a bit of rounders.

Rounders = what you play in PE when the cricket nets and goalposts are all down.
Grrr. Argh.

Cricket? Nobody understands cricket. You've got to know what a crumpet is to understand cricket. [/Raphael]

Heh....sorry, I'm sure it's actually a fine game.

Baseball is a manly sport. I remember being in 4th grade as a pitcher and getting hit in the eye with a line drive. Im now legally blind in my right eye. Oh.. wait. Forget manly... Freakin psychotic sport!

Cricket rocks.

You've got Tests, One Dayers, now 20-Twenty.

Plus, if we go by today's performance, we've got another good chance of a Test win against the Windies.

Pretty much... as for what Americans made of rugby... for anyone who's never seen British contact sports, we don't feel the need for so much protective paraphenalia...

It also explains why you have free health care ;) Youd spend a fortune in prosthetics from broken bones and faces.

Have to go with its good simply as we use to play for the local team and across london pub teams.

I admit that watching can be boring, why do you think they all drink so much beer and lager, but playing is totally different, I always loved to bowl. Shame the old eyes got to bad and the club got too stingy and put their prices up by 60 quid then another 40 the next year

I think it's actually a good laugh to watch, I prefer tests.

It's just a day long drinking session basically, punctuated with effing and blinding in a good/bad way depending on how your side plays.

I compare it to Pre season footy, you know or at least hope that something is about to happen, that is part of the fun. Obviously stuff does happen, boundaries and wickets are fun to watch, often immensely imo.

Seeing your attack rip through a batting line up in a matter of hours can be abso-*******-lutely fantastic!

High in protein, if a little tickly as they go down.

Which is fine if you're the bowler, but fielding = standing in a field doing bugger all for hours on end. And if you're batting, then most of the time is spent sitting on a bench waiting for your turn...
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!
