I saw it on TV a while back while I was flickin' the channels. But seriously, is there still a GoBot fanbase? The franchise is dead and gone with Hasbro using its bought names for the occasional Transformer, and I doubt anyone ran out to buy an Armada Megatron as soon as they heard his mini-con was named Leader-1. Is there even a GoBot message board?

There is acutally a pretty big fanbase for them in France. Check this site:
http://www.gobots.net/
You have to register to view anything, but try it. They have some artists who drew extremly good pics (maybe even paintings, they are very detailed) about Gobots like Bad Boy, Spay-C or Zeemon vs. Herr Fiend.
I collect the toys myself, but the cartoon was crap. However, there was a Machine Robo cartoon that was better - all the robots were good, save the monster-like robots and Monsterous, known imaginatively as 'Devil Satan 6' or in Japan, and a human-like guy called Rom Stol, who had the 'Wolf Sword' and had two robotic pretender-shell-like armors... he had a toy in Japan. The Rocklords were there too as a third party, some of them were good others evil.

I read a lot about this show, sadly there are no torrents of it anywhere. But in France, it was translated and aired back then as "Revenge of the Gobots". Yes, don't laugh...
Rom Stol wasn't the only japanese exclusive Machine Robo toy, they had a triple changer, many mini-bots that never made it to the USA (but some were released in Europe, like the london cab, the Apollo rocket, the blackbird plane and of course, Japanese bullet trains.) But the best are the so-called Double Machine Robo, think like Duocons but with much better articulation and made of diecast. Here is one TFU.INFO reviewed... and I cant' find it, duh. So here's one on ebay. Yes, they are rare and cost a lot...
