I can't log in since they updated their forums. Anyone else had problems initially?

As is the current one. Apparently the website contractors had a bit of trouble when they tried to follow a straightforward recipe for replacing the CAPTCHA (same code used here and a few other places) and couldn't get GD2 output working or something related to that. Which broke registration for way too long.
I'm not being cruel here, am I? It's common sense to test functionality changes on a commercial website before making them live, isn't it? And to revert changes immediately if there's a show-stopping problem.

It's almost like they are in a post-count race over there, where the same four guys are trying to be attain the title of "Highest Poster", as if they will somehow become more worthy of the creators attention.
Unfortunately, I find myself not even reading the posts of these guys and trying to get to the stuff the occassional poster has to say.
Is there any advice on how to stop this chatter politely and without hurting feelings?

"But the Costa story featuring Starscream? Fantastic! This guy is "The One", I just know it, just from these few pages. "--Yaya, who is never wrong.

Maybe thats the reason they are the mods. Maybe to be a mod you have to get like 12000 posts.spiderfrommars wrote:PM a mod.Yaya wrote:

i think a lot of it is just about the tone of how you ask.
However how receptive people are is also down to the 'collective mind' of the board - for examplei would say here if it started happening the consensus would descend pretty quickly, but at IDWs board i get the impression some people see it as 'part of the friendlieness' or something.
However, i don't think there is any harm in suggesting people keep the more idle chatter to the gneral discussion forum (i think they have one now?) and its certainly far to suggest that people should not just be posting to try and get their counts up.
But chances are someone will take offence to be honest.

Yeah, and then they would likely respond with something like "Well, you don't own these boards", to which I would have no logical response cause they'd be right.Best First wrote:iBut chances are someone will take offence to be honest.

yeah, its a matter of taste.Yaya wrote:Yeah, and then they would likely respond with something like "Well, you don't own these boards", to which I would have no logical response cause they'd be right.Best First wrote:iBut chances are someone will take offence to be honest.
However, given that its the OMG!OFFICIAL! IDW board it would be appropriate to suggest that things are kept a bit more topic, i would say that the plethora of nothing posts are probably keeping IDW from recieving comments from as broad a selection of fans as they could - i know i find it off putting so it may be the case for others as well.
Without a doubt. When the comic has only been out two days, but the thread is already up to page 27 (and you KNOW there will be pages of irrelavant chatter) I find I can't be bothered.Best First wrote: the plethora of nothing posts are probably keeping IDW from recieving comments from as broad a selection of fans as they could.

I brought up the fact that they would post a thread on an upcoming issue of Escalation four weeks in advance and that this was killing the discussion because nobody wants to sift through all those comments to get reviews.Scraplet wrote:Without a doubt. They bashed me for it, and continued to do it.
So I started giving fake reviews four weeks in advance, and people got pissed because the whole thread got derailed.
So what did they do?
Started another thread three weeks in advance, this time adding "THE OFFICIAL" Escalation review thread.
Sigh.....

They're where all the cool kids hang out dontchaknow.
I don't bother with IDW boards (apart from the odd direct link to something decent, like that Q+A thread with Mr. F) simply because of the spam. That thing about the 'Official' threads just indicates they need more organised moderation, but I guess that's just not the way the place works, so...
Glad to hear that it's apparently busy and full of happy people though.
