[warhammer stuff] Help me paint my Tyranids...

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

[warhammer stuff] Help me paint my Tyranids...

Hello, says the now semi-professional lurker... :lurk: ;)

Anyway, yeah... so I'm at my b/f's. Awhile back he gave me a bunch of 'nids to do what I want with, and I've slowly over many visits been cleaning them and basically just getting them all ready to be primed for painting and whatnot. Well, I finally managed to get enough done to be spraypainted with a base colour, and I just realized thaaaaat... I have no fracking idea what colour I want these things to be. :p And I know there's at least a couple of warhammer players here somewheres, so I ask you... help me out, it's my first army!

I want something that is somewhat bright and flashy. I was thinking something along the lines of orange/red/yellow, but I'm a bit worried that might be a touch difficult. And I'm not very sure which pieces to paint what colour... like, what is skin and what is armour, that sorta thing.

Many of the thankings in advance to the you peoples. :)

ahha, this my area!

welll, tyranids come in all colours but many players like to colour them after one of the major hive fleets. Bheamoth, leviathan and Kraken.

heres some painting tips for you and some colour guides for you but as always feel free to experiment with the 'Nids' as they like to be called...

U might also want to pick up thier latest rule book - it has loads of painting detail and of course actually rules for them.

When I was still sharing a house as a students, one of the guys was really into Warhammer. Very good at painting and customising his army. He made some amazing things!

I once went with him to the Warhammer shop and the shopkeeper taught me how to paint an ogre/goblin/some kind of green creature/maybe an orc. Conclusion: I have no patience for this.

This was some years ago so I do not have any useful tips (except be patient and paint carefully), just want to wish you the very best of luck and lots of fun! :)

I kind of still want the yellow/red/orange combo but it will apparently be very difficult as yellow is a bitch to work with, so I might go along with something else... Not sure what. Meanwhile, my 'nids sit and wait for a basecoat at my b/f's place... bah.

I kind of want to work out my own colour scheme... guess I will just have to take a look at paint pots and experiment a bit. :/ hmmm.

Yep, I well know I'm in need of a codex- right now I'm just sticking to getting the models done, however. :) I figure I don't need it immeadiately... eventually, yeah. I wanna play my 'nids after all. :p

Eline- thanks, I've painted before... it's actually quite easy to do, I have a steady enough hand anyway. :) I've not got the highlighting down pat however, so that's my biggest problem right now.

:joy: Impy, you rock. That would have been useful and I would have been "Cool, right on!", but my b/f actually bought me the codex as a surprise gift this weekend. Thanks a bunch for the thought, though!

I think I miiiiight possibly do... metallics! Thinking of either attempting something along the lines of NMM or doing Boltgun Metal and some sort of bronzey colour, probably Dwarf Bronze, though I'd have to figure out a highlight. That'd definitely be different, but I'm not sure if it'll work out as well in practice as it does in theory.

It does that doesnt it? - Outside of pretty much anything I think W40k has the best sci-fi world at its finger tips now, a movie would be mental...

Sounds good saysaide, I always like to use at least two colours on Tyranids tho, and if your thinking of metalic paint themes, check out the Necrons schemes...

http://uk.games-workshop.com/necrons/

they are all metal colours, in generall.... as some of them go for hight tech polymer paint jobs.

Either way u cant go wrong really, have fun with it, but like i say i like two colours as nids always have the soft bits and hard armour bits and it helps the Imperial lot to know what to shoot at!

The horror.... THE HORROR!!!

ive been reading the Horesy Heresy Novels recently, and the giant picture books - if there was a movie to be made this would be the story to tell.

unfortuantly its just so giant and EPIC beyond all proprtions im not sure how it could be done, u would need a movie for each book, and I belive that would equal at least 9... bah, not gonna happen anytime soon.
