I have noticed something in TF:TM that I cant excuse, and no I dont mean the art or the bad characterization. I mean Hot Rods actions.

I think he and Megatron were in league together to get rid of Optimus. Notice Megs doesnt hurt Hot Rod when hes holding him hostage. They both knew Prime wouldnt shoot back. It should have ended there, but no, Prime had to get that ONE last punch in. Roddy didnt know that Megatron was going to die in space. Ever notice that he jumps for the Matrix when Prime drops it? Like a 3 foot drop will break it after millions of years of being carried through war.. HAH. Of course he knows hell get his arse handed to him by Magnus at THAT point so he hands it over.

Back to Megsy. Being thrown out in space causes him to come across Unicron who of course provides him with a new body for which to hunt down Magnus. Kind of convenient that Hot Rod is on the OTHER ship than Ultra Magnus isnt it? Notice that all Galvatron does is make Hot Rods ship crash land while he blows up Magnus's ship. I think he was planning on going back and picking up Roddy on the return trip and killing Kup and the Dino's. Unless they were "on the payroll" as well.

I think the plan was for Hot Rod to get the Matrix, become the Prime, and then surrender to "end the war and usher in an era of peace." Then "Leige Prime" would be in charge of operations on Earth since the humans would trust the Cybertronian representative of the newly formed "AutoCons"

Unfortunately for those two, Unicron wanted the Matrix destroyed and since Galvatron is under the control of the planet eater, he had to betray his partner in crime. This forced Rodimus to fight back and take control on his own. Alliances were shattered and the war began anew with two new leaders. One MUCH better than his predecessor(Galvatron), one MUCH worse(Rodimus Prime).

"Optimus.. Forgive me" indeed...

Anywho, there just one problem, (from a cartoon point of view) Galvy was far worse than Megs, wile Megs may of had stupid plans, Galvatron
made none, he spent a vast amout of the 3rd season basicly hitting Cyclonus on the head and shooting his own troops.

When not doing that he was comeing up with even worse plans with his new found squeeky voice (Ultamate Weapon stands out as one, Carnage in C minor another) than Megs, Cartoon wise he was worse, far worse.
