And you are?Best First wrote:Yes, that would get me there.Legion wrote:let's have another Transfest this year then... it's not quite on the same scale i'll admit, more than likely just a pub somewhere... but maybe if we bribe some guests with a free pint we could get them to turn up?
you did mean me right?
Sounds good, and, we will have some interesting topics to talk about at that point - the new TF movie - which leads me to...
What if we all went to the premmier of TF, or perhaps the first weekend showing of it or somthing? then off down the pub.

Maybe if we hold it in Canterbury?
Not sure if we can downscale TransFest to "just a pub somewhere", makes my mind conjure up images of elephants and minis.Legion wrote:Let's have another Transfest this year then... it's not quite on the same scale i'll admit, more than likely just a pub somewhere...

Right.
Well I was going to post this over in the Transfest forum - things have been in a bit of flux here lately, so I wanted to be sure first. As of the 20th this month, Mrs. V won't be working at the Blue Posts any more, she's being transferred to the George in Borough High Street (near London Bridge). The George is a 16th Century galleried coaching inn owned by the National Trust and as such is a bit of a step up from the last venue. It has proper dining rooms and restaurant-like areas. So I was thinking that we could formalise Transfest a bit this year - maybe have a proper sit-down three course dinner - before going out on the lash and drinking our livers out in an indie disco. Perhaps even have a guest speaker or something, I'm not sure what Mr. Furman's fee would be, but I bet we could persuade him to come down to London and say a few words if we arrange transport, book him a nice hotel, buy him dinner and drinks and all that.
I dunno, just throwing out possibilities here - we could swap the order around a bit, either:
Dinner > Movie > Drinking
Movie > Dinner > Drinking
Drinking > Dinner > Drinking > Movie > Drinking
Whaddy'all think?

The George is a farking quality boozer.
Think we would need to formalize things quite a bit to get Furmy involved.
also there's the question of whether, given there is no UK event this year, we just put up signs everywhere saying 'we are having a bit of a knees up' so people can get involved if they want - of course that could lead to endless nut ache.
Also, i know this is crazy talk, but we don't have to do it at the venue where Mrs V happens to be working.

As long as its made clear that its just knees-up of trans-fans, and not some Transformer Expo, to save disappointment, then im sure it would be ok.
Personally, Id love to have a meet, a drink, and go to watch the TF movie, then perhaps off to dinner, drink and from there on, who knows...
I think the movie, like it or not, is a big thing for the TF community, and I think it would be nice to see it together, as a fan base.

I know we don't have to hold it at the missus's but the opportunity to get the George is a bit too good to miss...besides, if we were to have a formal dinner-type affair to which we could invite SF as a guest speaker we'd probably need somewhere of that magnitude. I dunno, I just thought it would be fun if we could sit around like some old-fashioned gentlemen's club eating big dinners and drinking fine wines...if Furman doesn't want to get involved, I could probably get limabean to say a few words
Getting people from other boards involved could be fun, depends what they would be expecting from Transfest. If we make it clear what's involved from the start I don't see a problem with opening it up to other boards. We'd probably need a bit of Transfans webspace to put together an information/registration page and all that, but otherwise it shouldn't be too much of an issue.
On a similar note, please pass on any comic strips/scripts/ideas for this as I've just sent my bit off to the artist and I'm awaiting the artwork back. I know Preds is itching to colour something too
Pub - TF:M Film - Dinner - Pub - Club sounds like a good working plan. If we're going to formalise it, the movie/dinner bit is the only part we need to worry about, before and after we can play it a bit more fast and loose.
