Could it be?
A theory about the designs?

Very interesting! The hypthosis sits well within the available circumstancial evidence.
Even if true, I still think they could have developed better designs that were exclusive of the other TF lines. I mean, there is no excuse for Megatrons hands......![Bad form, bad form...](images/smilies/nonono.gif)

That the movie designs are so far from that of 'normal' transformer designs specifically at Hasbros request. Essentially to protect the copyright of the iconic TF images.veritech wrote:So what was the theory/rumor?
So, if the movie Prime looked like classic prime, hasbro would be handing the rights to that image to Paramount, to a certain extent.
And if it all goes pearshaped it protects the classic brand. Or something like that.
IIRC

Weird theory, and not likely true. Surely Hasbro had a great influence over the movie designs, they could have told Bay not to do anything radical, but they let him go along. I think Hasbro wanted these new designs, they wanted to do something radically new to spice up the franchise.
