Pretty interesting start. Not incredible, but not dire either.
Everything Changes seemed to copy the Rose episode of Doctor Who, with the new recruit following a mystery about the male lead.
Captain Jack is post-Parting of the Ways, although there's been no explanation so far about how he's in post-Doomsday Cardiff.

Re: Torchwood
Entertaining stuff. It actually caught me by surprise how far they went with the sex and violence. Thought Episode 1 was very stylish (cool twist too), but episode 2 was rather derivative. Gwen's really pretty in an unconventional way (I wonder if her character could be any relation to Gwyneth in 'The Unquiet Dead', also played by Myles). Coulda done with some more action perhaps.
I hope it does well. If it flops or if the quality of the season is inconsistent it would tar Doctor Who a bit I feel.

I don't think it required any background/prior knowledge about the setup. Most of the concepts were introduced/explained fairly well - apart from Jack's amazing new ability - but that was obviously a deliberate plot point left vague for later development...
I quite enjoyed it - it wasn't the smoothest of executions i'd admit, but i found it quite entertaining. The first episode had a hell of a lot of parrallels to 'Rose' , it must be RTD's generic first episode formula
Second ep took me by surprise, i hadn't realised quite how graphic it would be - but it was a good surprise! I'll be watching the rest of them, without a doubt!

Knew it was on and sadly just couldn't be bothered.
Heard Robin Hood was pretty rubbish, some elements of the New Who grated with my very badly (although some other elements of it were very good indeed) and just couldn't bring myself to make time for this.
In fact I watch virtually no TV at all now unless I'm round a friend's house and they put the Simpsons on or something! More time for my music practice
