What do you care about?

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

What do you care about?

By which I mean what are the kind of things that politically motivate you?

What are the values you look for in a political party?

I usually feel like I am something of a minority in that I am happy for the state to intervene in things, don’t mind paying tax, but do expect a lot of accountability – lots of people seem to not care beyond their day to day lives, which is maybe fair enough, because maybe I have less other concerns than some of these people so I don’t feel threatened when say, someone wants you to pay more tax but that means that you are not going to be able to afford that motorbike you always dreamed of. Or something. I don’t know.

I basically feel people’s priorities are a bit screwy but I also think maybe that’s just me and wonder what motivates other people when it comes to voting, responding to political parties, etc.

I love tax.
Because of it I get a free education, free health and dental care, roads to drive my automobil on, etc.
At the same time I can afford to go to Rome, music festivals, and so on.

However, we just had our election in Sweden and "the other block" won, and I think they want to lower taxes.
This means more money in my pocket - but I'd rather see that the money went to health care, elderly care and stuff that really matters.
I can live without a new game for the DS if it means that somebody that's sick gets taken care off.

I personally am not politically involved, and I really have no knowledge about it.
Can't believe I'm still here.

Im not to fussed about paying Tax's to be honest but like yourself I do want to know they are at least being put to the proper use - I hate waste more then anything.

I have a problem with our government situation at the moment, in the past you had left and right wing parties but everyone seems to just call the PC route on everything now, its all very middle ground.

I dont honestly think it would make any difference to me if Labour or the Torys were in power and so I end up feeling that politics is a bit pointless.
ie. I dont think my vote really counts for much because both sides will do the same thing.

take green issues, niether side unless they want to commit political suscide is going to just '[composite word including 'f*ck'] all that green; stuff - so they both have policys that get shapped by realism - the tories right now can say what they like, they are not in power, where as Labours views will be shaped on how much money they have and what deals they have with other countires.

I feel powerless to do anything because I dont actually belive I have any power.

The only time i feel my vote actually counts is in local elections - the topics being fought over do tend to effect me more so then country wide topics but at the same time im left in an odd situation.

Lets say I want Labour in power but in my town the Tory candidate is by far the better option for my local living that directly effects me. im screwed.

I care much for Environmental issues. I recycle at home, and has bought a low-power lamp or two. ( Ok, I'm a cheap bast too... -_-)

I also care about my privacy, and thinks it's wrong that the government is calling me and 1000000 other swedes for "worse than thiefs!", when clearly, we are not thieves, and we wouldn't hurt a goddamn fly.

I vote for the Green. Sadly, the right-wing nuts won the election in sweden, just like oB said.

And frankly, I'm a bit worried about my future, lowered social services, no free dental care up to the age of 26 ( wich I REALLY could have used.. :( ) and they're about to sell out a LOT of government companies, wich means a lot of people are gonna get sacked, realistically. Last time they were in power, Sweden went to ****.

I think a bit more transparency would help.
