Aliens

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Yup - best film ever (bar the orignal SW trilogy) Aliens has everything, in large buckets named 'goodness'

I love all the detail, and non CG'ness of it all - it has a certain grime about it, a grit and starkness that makes my willy non limp.

Like the best Sci Fi films, it doesn't drown itself in Sci Fi!

Liked the overall plot.

Liked the effects.

Liked the marines (and their weapons).

Hicks was tops, Vasquez and Bishop were great, Hudson started as a piece of crap but turned likable (and logical seeing the situation).

The Queen was a real menace, not a big puppet like in "4"

Liked that Ripley was badass. Which in turn made somewhat possible for women to not be the damsel in distress in other movies (Vasquez helped also :) )

I liked the music (especially when Ripley goes to the rescue of the marines, just for it I dowloaded the OST).

If it had ended there I would have been satisfied. HATED what they did to Newt, Hicks and Bishop in alien 3, the whole ******* movie Ripley tried to save Newt for her dying just beggining Alien 3???. Well but "Alien 3" is 10 times better than 4 (which is fairly easy done indeed).

Also If they would have put the part were Ripley is told her daughter passed away when she was sleeping would make much more significant her attachment to Newt, but nonetheless it was great.

Trivia says that Bill Paxton is the only guy being killed by a Terminator (T1), Alien (Aliens) and Predator (Predator 2).

Definitely best action sci fi movie ever.

I think Alien was the best horror sci fi movie ever.

And Aliens 3 was the best sci fi movie starring a woman with no hair.

And Resurrection was the best movie to come out in 1997 with both Sigourney Weave and Winona Ryder.

Seriously though, Aliens was sweet. Total thrillcoaster. It pissed me off so much when they just threw away Newt and Bishop at the start of Aliens 3.

I haven't watched Aliens for AGES! I really must.....soon. Definatly the best of it genre. Even when you've watched it ten times, the tension still cuts through and makes you want to raise your feet onto the sofa in case something pops out from underneath!

Alien 3 was baba, though. I like to pretend it doesn't exist :D

I bloody hate Alien 3, for reasons already stated.

in fact i in some ways prefer 4, at least that had Ron Perlman and some f'n guns.

I hate the bit in A4 where Ron leans back on the ladder and try to shoot the Alien - they sort of build it up into this really sequence but it just falls flat so bad I want to laugh...

My perfect Alien 3 movie would have involved Hicks with Ripley commanding a squad to vanquish the aliens once and for all (well tracing somehow the Space Jockey ship that appeared in Alien 1 right to an "Alien World" of sorts).

Or maybe a fight in Earth like The Alien Vs Predator games.

are there any good online guides to the comics - i have had a look but i can't find much.

which is a no to the 'have i read' question.

I have alawys wanted to do an alien/micromasters cross, with nebulos as the setting...

the ladder bit in a4 is absurd, esp where Dreadlocks just sacrifices himself for no good reason. rubbish.

And how the [composite word including 'f*ck'] does miss Ryder reach the top of the ladder after being caught by the Aliens?

The A comics were some of the best comics I have ever read - in the backup story they had alien V's Predator which was also just brillant.

I never understood why they didnt adopt one of these storys for the film, the only bit they did adopt was that the Preads created Aliens for hunting use - they drop a queen on a world, its aliens hatch and infect the worlds indgenous creatures and turn them into the perfect killing machins - which the preads then 'hunt'

in one story, a riply typ character on some outback world makes friends with a pread that gets left behind - wicked stuff.

The Alien story to read tho is 'Xeno-Zip' I just cant express how bloody brillant it is. - marines, Bishop, two alien races, queens, queen guard and [composite word including 'f*ck'] load of aliens - billions of them...

Haven't seen this in ages. I need to rent it again but I'm not sure how well it will go over with the pregnant lady... (though it'd be interesting to see)

Better than Serenity?

"No, have you?"

Aliens is awesome

One of those movies that you can watch over and over again.

Game over man!

Overall, I think that Alien 3 is better than Alien 4.
But the first half of Alien 4 is better than Alien 3. Errr.
Can't believe I'm still here.

Yeah, that's in there somewhere...

had a quick google and no, i can't find any comic guides for the aliens series, although i did find a good old timeline page! :)

http://time.absoluteavp.com/eutime.html

Most online Aliens pages seem geared more towards the whole AvP ideal rather than stand alone Aliens. Don't get me wrong, i like the AvP comics (the movie was a bit pants), but it's been done to death now... I mean, Superman vs Aliens, Predator vs Batman... what next...

Aliens is brill. I think the original is probably more genius though.

Read some great comics in the day. The first Alien Vs Predator strip remains the best for me.

Is the directors cut of Alien 3 any better than the theatrical version?

unless it has scenes where Hicks, Newt & Bishop don't die right at the start and somehow morphs into the film that LA describes above, i reckon not.

And a Joss script.

No, I'm not biased and I take offence at the mere suggestion.

:(

AvP2 will have Reiko "Michelle of off 24" Aylesworth in it. This alone will make me go and watch.

Fantastic 4 lost huge points for that very reason, though.

JESSICA ALBA!

NAKED!

... but invisible...

It giveth with one hand... but taketh away with the other. :(
