"I'm going to try and drive a car with a jet engine!"
*CRASH*
I'm not particularly shocked by the outcome. I don't wish any harm to the guy, he seems like a fairly decent bloke, but everyone's all "ZOMG! He did liek crahs teh big car!!1" which is exactly the outcome I would have predicted if you put a TV presenter in a car with a ****ing jet engine, for crying out loud.
I do hope he recovers, and maybe Top Gear will re-evaluate their attitude towards all the macho bull**** that surrounds driving very fast in cars with big engines.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

If it were Clarkson I'd probably chuckle more
Basically what Rob said- no harm wished to the bloke, but "chap who gets paid a fortune for living life o'reilly doing things most individuals can only dream of gets hurt in crazy-ass stunt" isn't the saddest headline of the day, given current world affairs imo, and perhaps it'll knock some sense into him and/or the TopGear mindset.
Latest reports indicate doctors are optimistic he'll do fine- he's taken a nasty blow to the noodle, but with a bit of luck will recover well. If I were him I'd be counting my blessings I wasn't paralysed or put into a coma for life.

Reckon he'll be up for a second attempt?

Depends if it were a jet powered skate boardBest First wrote:i'd also dispute that 'this is what happens when you put a tv presenter in a car' - its not like putting Des Lynam on a skateboard - Hammond drives for a living.
I have visions of a Wile E. Coyote-esque incident involving Des Lynam, an acme jet skateboard and a conveniently placed cliff

I don't know much about the bloke-what driving experience does he have? Is his experience limited to testing the cars on Top Gear, or has he raced professionally?
It's just that I'd imagine driving one of those things at 300mph would be hard enough for the best of drivers.

"Most of my heroes don't appear on no stamps"
True, but he's no fast jet pilot either.Best First wrote:i'd also dispute that 'this is what happens when you put a tv presenter in a car' - its not like putting Des Lynam on a skateboard - Hammond drives for a living.
