What do you want out of life?

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

What do you want out of life?

Post by Best First » Tue Sep 12, 2006 12:09 pm

do you have a plan?

certain goals?

short term goals? long term goals?

i feel i need more of this stuff.

And less of this stuff:

Image

basically i have recently moved to London, passed my driving test and got a hefty promotion, and i'm all of a sudden feeling 'what now'

i don't really see metting someone as a goal per se as i think that kind of stuff just has to happen, nor is it something you can effectively work at in a direct fashion anyway.

i am however a bit short of ideas. the few i have are
- get absurdly fit
- do some kind of conservation work at weekends
- join a political party (probably the yellow one, mmm, lellow)

but all feel a bit short term.

i feel like i'm drifting a bit basically - its not the end of the world but i feel i may be robbing myself of an opportunity to erally work at something. I don't want to epire having done little more than work and get pissed at weekends.

so, essentially, just a bit of a brain dump from me. feel free to ignore, share or comment.

or throw things.

I'm still thinking about what I want to do actually.

Me and my mate have been talking about opening our own pub though - and it really tickles my tummy.
Even if it means working 18 hours a day, it'll still be worth it since I always have a great time with my friends, and it would be great to be my own boss.

I have also gotten me a gym card - don't wanna be all Hulk though. I just dont wanna die when I'm 30 or something.

Other than that I don't have any plans... I just wanna make people feel happy and stuff.
Can't believe I'm still here.

I'm not sure I have any true long-term goals, but I'm currently looking to finish my education and most importantly, get a job in the industrial sector. :o

Short-term goals is to get ahold of one of Jack Kirbys amazing 2-page dioramas and colour it using a combination of state of the art 2D, 3D and 2.5D digital colouring-tecniques.

Likewise for some cover or some such from Jim Steranko, of Nick Fury Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D -fame.

The dream is of course also to get to colour an entire story for a comics-magazine, wich I'm working on getting together with a writers-friend on a fanzine. :)

Things you maybe can do are:
- learn a new language
- work in another country
- run a marathon
- try out a new sport
- do some voluntary work for the community
- have children ;)

Are there some things you are unhappy about, that you can maybe turn into goals?

I have absolutely no clue what I want to do in my life either. :(

Just got my driver's licence though. My other plans are:
- learn ballet (it is much more difficult than it looks, so far)
- get back in shape (this is starting out well, my muscles hurt badly from yesterday)
- do something with my career (but I have no clue how or what...)
- work in another country for a few years (no clue either)
- make my own clothes (no time)
- do some more diy in the house (no time either)

But I don't really know how to get from plan to reality with some of these.

Dunno...my goals seem to revolve around buying a flat at the moment.

Otherwise, smoke less and try and lose the Shatner gut I managed to grow last week due to too much real ale and pub food.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

At the moment, get my driving licence so I can go self-employed.

Also, get a bigger place if the above go to plan.

My really short-term goal is get my Bachelor degree tomorrow. :o Then start a Master course. Job's so far good, with decent salary and a pay-rise looming.

This will also be my last year in dorm, so finding a nice place to rent (and hopefully eventually buy) is on the works, too.

Other than that? Nah. Nothing serious anyway. Just doing what I've done so far and what is connected with my hobbies. The best Polish X-Men website is looking to become a site about whole Marvel Universe, and I'm going to help with summaries and such. Also it looks like I'll be upgrading/creating from scratch their engine. Fun stuff. :)

1. Finish school.
2. Lose weight until I become a sex object.

Then, after this May, the situation becomes a bit more complicated....

1. Go back to working at the restaurant I spent 7 years at? Armed with a degree they'll pay me more (36k+) then any of my friends could find after they graduated. I could pay off my student loans, but then I'd be tied to a 50+ hour a week job with an odd schedule for the forseeable future.

2. Go to grad school? Do I really want that academic of a life? Do I really want to bury myself in debt that much? Can I even get accepted into a school and get enough financial aid to go?

3. Work for one of my best mate's company? It's what all my friends are doing. But none of those friends have a degree either, nor any aspirations beyond having a large TV and BMW in the garage. Don't I want to make my own way in life?

4. Move? Still need to see the world. Still need to go to LA to try my hand in the adult entertainment industry....

From short-to-long term:

Not go crazy living in the in-laws' place.

Find a place of our own and like my new job.

Lose 25 of those pound things.

Successfully become a father

Possibly teach in another country at some point

Get into graduate school

Buy a house at grad school

Finish grad school

Publish lots of sci-fi novels and make a living off them

Man, I'm goaly.

I know exactly know what I want to do, but nobody really knows the true extent of my plans... I'm almost afraid if I give voice to them they might melt away into the breeze. I'm aiming high though :)

Good luck to everyone else in theirs- I firmly believe nothing can stop you if you work hard enough at it and want it enough. I have to believe that.

Yep, try to work my way up by lying, stealing and cheating. And ofcourse try to exploit any opportunity in my favor.
Best First wrote:certain goals?
Oh, there's still much to do:

Short run
- Finally get out of my parents house.
- A cool car would be in order.
- Hook up with a chick and finally stay together.
- Gotta see if I can pull some strings so my father can retire early.
- Help my sister with finding a new job, she's starting to get depressed at her current one (asshole employers).
- Buy my parents a new dog as soon as I leave the house. They'll appreciate it.

Long run
- Try to get rich, the lottery doesn't factor into this.
- Try to photograph the boss while he's doing it with his secretary on the copymachine. That should make for some interesting blackmailing.
- Gotta work out more, I used to be in peak condition when I regularly exercised.
- Father some kids in the long run.
- Make sure that my age old nemesis goes back to prison again once he gets out in a couple of years (he sold drugs to kids and I generaly hate his guts).

Get back on the exercise bike.

I only want one thing - to be happy.

Unfortunately it feels like getting there will take a long time. I'm sure I will eventually though :)

A lot of the 'usual' stuff, I suppose.

Happiness*, a family, stability, and possibly make a contribution that has a positive impact upon a future beyond me, perhaps, somehow.

*Which is not to be confused with contentness.

Well aside from that I have short and long range objectives and activities and different ways of achieving them (after all Im also a Coach).

My goals are short-term. Better job, apartment. Life's good right now, but I think it could be better... if I could find a fracking decent job.

Long-term, I'm still thinking school. The B/f is, sorta, as well... though nothing's really been said on it from either of us, we're both currently in the same spot regarding [that being limbo] so I dunno when that's going to happen for either of us. :/

In the not-too-distant future, I'd like to able to stop running around like a blue-arsed fly. Some days I don't have time to s***. I'm always knackered.

I'm thinking;
-a flexible, work-from-home job that pays reasonable and is only a minor part of my life.
-tranquil, isolated, moor-top house. Maybe in the Pennines or the west-coast of Scotland. As long as there are no people! :D
-more time. Just to spend with the kids, or (shock/horror) have some time to myself now and again.

That'd do :)

Thinking about this last night, I realised I've achieved a few of my life-goals, but the problem is I never realised what my life-goals were until I did them. Like:
a) be zombie in zombie movie
or:
b) open major music festival

So I'm not too worried about pursuing my goals, because as Jesus said, "Don't try to be a great man, just be a man." If you spend your life struggling for some dream and fail, you'll be worse off that if you don't worry about it too much but take advantage of any opportunities that fall your way.

Having said that, I am pursuing a goal at the moment, one which looks like it is very close to being finalised. I'm not going to say what it is because loose lips sink ships, but I will say this:

Hail to the king, baby, hail to the king.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

Zefram Cochrane, I believe :)

Though South Park (kind of) attributed it to Jesus when he had the boxing match against Satan.
