Time to break that rule then.
My boyfriend has a DS Lite, and I am currently playing Animal Crossing which is great fun, and have just bought Harvest Moon for GBA which you can play on the DS, because I don't want to wait for it to come out on the DS and then some more months before it becomes a bit less expensive.
Why are all these games €40?!
Otherwise, the DS is great!

okayyyyyy then.Predabot wrote:I want one too. Too bad I have the dumbest rule ever, "every other console only".
Seems like we have a little DS crew here. Nice.
I have Advance wars and Mario as well but i haven't really touched them yet due to BBA. I may also get Brain Training and Mario Kart.
Games are a bit pricey, i agree
I *love* my DS Lite.
I highly reccomend the following games:
New Super Mario Bros
Kirby - Power Paintbrush (2nd best game on DS, fact)
Advance Wars
Castlevania - Dawn of Sorrow
Metroid Prime: Hunters
Animal Crossing
Mario Kart
Sonic Rush (a true Sonic game, none of this 3D bs)
Mario & Luigi, Partners in Time
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
Trauma Centre: Under the Knife.
Bomberman is worth getting on the cheap too. Some friends and myself had a wireless 8 player game using 1 cartridge the other night. Genius.
You can generally pick games up for around £20 on eBay. My favourite seller is Xbite Games. Very reliable and good prices.

Is it difficult/expensive to hook up your DS to the internet?
I've been thinking about doing it - but none of my friends own a DS, and I don't wanna waste a million bucks to play one round of Mario Kart a year
Eline: I'm not sure, but I think you get a friend code when you use your DS on the internet

I haven't bought a hand held since the Game Boy. Mainly because I feel that if I did, I would play it before bed and on the toilet, and then I wouldn't get any reading done at all. :P
But this whole idea of playing Mario Kart and other games of extreme funosity against people I know sounds like super fun. But there's no way of playing across the pond, I'll bet.

I am not sure about going across to european countries and back again, but all you need is an internet connection with one of two things:
1. A wireless router with the appropriate settings (DS games with online features will have these settings listed, or a url to go to for further instruction)
or
2. Nintendo has produced a usb stick made to connect an internet enabled computer, to your DS. In america they cost around 30 dollars. Not bad considering a decent wireless router runs around 100 or so last I checked.
The first time you log into a Wi-Fi enabled game (example: You log on to the Mario Kart DS lobby where you can choose your opponent search style), it will generate a friend code for you. After that you can look somewhere in the options (depending on the game) and it will show you your code. Give that to someone, and enter theirs in exchange, and now you can play online with the other person.
Each game will give you a different friend code though, I beleive.

I picked up my Lite a few weeks ago by trading in my Original DS + two games. I made sure to transfer my settings so I get to keep all my wifi profiles + friend codes. My Current Game List for DS:
Animal Crossing
Mega Man Battle Network 5: Double Team DS
Metroid Prime Hunters
Trauma Center: Under the Knife
Brain Age
Tetris DS
Feel the Magic
Mario Kart DS
and next week I'l add Mega Man ZX to that list, since it's about to be relased here in the US.
And Eline, or anyone wanting to play DS online, all you need is to be around a wifi spot that either has no protection or WEP, te DS wont get thru WPA protection. I have wifi setup at home and work, so I can almost always hop on. I'll post a bit more later.

Generally, you can play anyone in the world as long as you have the friend code of the person you want to play against. Most wifi games also have a random match feature that can let you play against anyone in the world playing the game. Now I know Animal Crossing does have soem differences in it's versions, and if I remember right, the japanese version wont talk to the maerican one, but I do think EU and NA Animal Corssings can talk with each other... I'l go check on that at a fan site.
EDIT: According to that site, after some forum digging, Animal Crossing players can visit each other US to EU versions. the only versions that cant cross international boundries is the japanese version, because of the amount of text unique to it.
*note to all animal crossing players: www.animalxing.com is your friend

So you're telling me, with the proper friend codes and WiFi connection, people from all over the world can get pwned by me at Mario Kart and Tetris?
Brilliant!!!!

Oh yeah, I've had my share of getting pwned by 8 year old kids screaming racial epithets on XBox Live to understand that I have too many other things (school, drinking, trying to knock boots with ladies) to do to try to keep up with little kids who sit around all night and play video games in a mad, caffine induced rage.
But you guys?
You're all PWNED!!!!

I find it impossible to describe Animal Crossing, and I have no idea why I love it so much, all I know is that it's one of the best games I have ever played!Best First wrote:ok, so i got animal crossing cos everyone here is, like, totally, you know, about it.
er... not sure i quite get it to be honest.
i just do twee stuff to twee music at a sedate pace right? and have a mortgage?
Get yourself a fishing rod, big house, nice clothes and just live life! It's meant to be played for 10-15 mins everyday really
