Both of them are the pinacles of Marvel US' TF output. But if you could only have one, which would it be?

G2.
The interaction between OP and Megs is something we never saw before (mostly cause either of them or both were usually dead thanks to Budiansky.)
But it's a hard choice.

I never had much of a problem with the size of the hub... i mean, if they've been off conquering and terra(cyber?)forming planets for millions of years, they're bound to have a fair few under their belts aren't they?
Still, my vote goes for the Unicron saga... G2 is good, but doesn't hit the right nails on the head for me.

What bugged me is - there has to be some aliens in the universe who have an empire strong enough to at least halt the Hub's progress, but we never got to learn this.
I guess they must be waging some serious war on other fronts since the LM wasn't really concerned about the 'throwbacks'.
Wish Simon would throw out Alignment and write a REAL sequel!

I'm really torn on this. G2 was a much tighter more focused story (it had to be) but it has serious flaws in art some wierdness with strength levels, and character behaviour but for me has some of the most sublime moments in Marvel's comic runs. As to Unicron it depends on where we extend the outer range of that story, because some of the material in Matrix Quest was pretty poor (in both story and in Delbo's art) and then there's the Neo Knights... It has some of my favourite moments as well.... Give me a little while on this one.

Not at all.Impactor returns 2.0 wrote:G2 Decepticons are pretty cool, tho i find the size of the Hub to be a lil unrealistic.
Absolutely. Considering this empire was being built, reproducing (in the most boring way possible I might add), and conquering the whole time it's easy to consider. Especially when the Swarm can eat as many as we saw them do and the big cheese LM calls it a mere irratation.Legion wrote: I never had much of a problem with the size of the hub... i mean, if they've been off conquering and terra(cyber?)forming planets for millions of years, they're bound to have a fair few under their belts aren't they?
My vote goes to Unicron despite how much I dig G2. Maybe if I had never heard of G2 I could hear the words "Vok" and "Swarm" in the same sentance and not have my blood pressure shoot up.

The Unicron Saga had some great moments, it featured all of my favourite characters and Wildman's art was amazing. But at the end of the day it's just another Unicron story. It's not even the best one (that honour goes to Legacy).
G2 is unique. It features lots of ideas that never really saw the light of day in official fiction again. It benifits a lot from that, since we can't compare it to other Swarm or Cybertronian Empire stories and say 'X was done better in that one, but Y was done better there' like we can with Unicron stories. I'm also a big fan of the overall artistic style, though from time to time Galan's art would leave something to be desired.
Thus, my vote goes to G2.

LOL! And that time, even Magnus could've managed it... don't bother trying to open the Matrix, just let the Swarm open YOU...Impactor returns 2.0 wrote:"how do we stop it?"

I have to vote Unicron saga, though if you're counting Matrix Quest, I can't say I loved all that. The final dozen or so issues of the US/UK G1 run are still my favourite, however, art, character and writing.
G2 was very different (apart from the resolution) and quite well done, but I wasn't a huge fan of a lot of the art, and there were just a few to many 'casual' deaths for my liking.
P.S. re: 'Xenogears'...
Just be glad it was released where you obviously live!!!Señior's Covenant wrote:Yes indeedy. I miss that game.

I'm going to vote for G2 also. I loved Unicron but it did seem to have a high level of movie rehash. I mean, in the end, it was better than the movie, but as far as concept goes, not as original as a big cloud of angry flies. I also loved Geoff's work in 12 better than in 75. I also like how G2 is more self-contained (you don't have to wade through the Budiansky issues to understand what's up).

I'm going to have to say the Unicron saga. It was the culmination of a long story so it seems much more epic. It had some of the best characterization anywhere, and there were so many moments that stood out (Ratchet/Megatron, Scorponok, Optimus...).
G2, on the other hand, while it was excellent, was only 12 issues, and was basically another "grand finale" without the beginning. The writing was top notch, but the story was a little too similar to the Unicron saga: in both cases, an untouchable threat, finally destroyed by Optimus blowing himself up to get the Matrix into the heart of the enemy, but ti ends up not mattering since he's reborn as his latest toy. Luckily it was only the basic premise which was so similar; I quite enjoyed the unique character interactions in G2.

god damn this was hard, since i love both equally, but im voting for G2. most of the book felt like a war story, which, in my opinon, is what any transformers story should be primarily. yeah, the swarm was stupid, {im not even going to bring up the vok thing}, but that wasent the focus of the series, it was the war between G1 and G2.
i had a longer, involved statement here, but it all comes down to this:
Freedom is the right of all sentient beings, as is justice, peace, and rebelion. and these rights must be protected at all costs.
