"Thank-you for that large round of indifference." [/Garfield]Brendocon wrote:I have Friday off work.
I have nothing planned.
It occurs to me I could just spend the entire day at Cineworld.
But I won't.
I need to save cash for Superman next weekend.
You could spend part of the day at Cineworld seeing Pirates 2...? It's Pirates 2!... Or, yknow, not. Enjoy your Supes! I save a lot of money not being a lush anymore and so I'll be seeing Superman as well. This is gonna be a good week.
And today, I shall wear my pirate hat to work. Because I am a big geek and need to convince everyone to see Pirates 2.

Hell no, not here. Asides, I didn't have a camera.Metal Vendetta wrote:Pictures please.saysadie wrote:And today, I shall wear my pirate hat to work.
That was hilarious. Over the course of my shift I got several "AAAARGH!"s, a couple of "Shiver me timbers!", a few "What's with the hat?" and this little gem:
me-"I've got the hat. Does this mean I have to rape and pillage?"
work dude-"Yes. Right now. Here. And you have to walk the plank."
I also managed to push both Pirates 2 and Pastfarianism. It was a dual-purpose hat!
I need to see X-Men 3, too. I missed it in the main theatres.sprunkner wrote:I still haven't seen X-Men 3.

I'm looking forward to PoC2 Should be lots of fun. What I hear about Superman is that it's not bad, just not exactly awesome either- and since I've no real interest in the franchise I'll probably wait for rental on that one.
I do hear it ends with a lovely touch though: "To Christopher and Dana Reeve, who achieved more than the man of steel ever did." It scores many points with me for that, very touching

My mom mentioned that she closed a staff meeting recently by reminding them that while there were a few hard weeks of work ahead, Pirates was out and that they were all going to see it as a morale-boosting exercise.
Seems like the entire female population of the UK is going to see it.

I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

On the topic of wimmens and Pirates- It's kind of annoying when you start a convo with some chicks about Pirates and they go all in with the "Ooooohhhhyeh, Johnny Depp/[whatshisname... Legolas] is sooooooo hot!"... or someone assumes that you're going to see the movie for that reason.Metal Vendetta wrote:

Or when you say you like Johnny Depp, and people assume you mean you'd happily dry-hump his leg or something.
I haven't been able to have a normal convo about the first movie in a couple of days, can you tell? Grrr.

They would almost have to, given the way the film "ends."Karl Lynch wrote:
I hear they might be running the third installment almost from there (since they were shot consecutively) so maybe that's the reason?

Bah. I hate those sort of endings- I nearly asked for my money back when that happened with Matrix 2 (not helped by the movie nearly driving me nuts with it's endless, empty philosophical garbage and fight scenes choreographed to such a degree it looked like dancing).Professor Smooth wrote:They would almost have to, given the way the film "ends."Karl Lynch wrote:

With the Matrix movies, though, they made it very clear (even from the trailers) that it was one movie split in two. The people in the theater for Pirates did not expect half a movie.
Though the half a movie...AWESOME!

Was Tom Paulin on the panel?spiderfrommars wrote:Pirates 2 got slated on Newsnight Review last night, but I think they take themselves just a little bit too seriously.
Some of the big stores are doing pirate-themed days today up here, with dressing up and talking like a pirate and colouring-in competitions...it's all for the kiddies like...
...i wish i could join in.

I saw it Saturday night. I'll have spoilers, so I'd skip over my post if you haven't seen it yet.

I loved it, through and through. I may be a bit biased as I loved the first, but everything seemed fine to me. Though the way we were just sort of dropped into the action at the first kind of surprised me, I decided I liked it after a few minutes. The "darker" tone of this movie was a nice contrast to the first. And thankfully, it lacked that patented "Disney" feel, for the most part.
I don't get why the monkey was undead, though. Every [surprisingly quick] scene with the monkey getting himself shot at, while funny, pulled me out of it long enough to go "Why the hell...?!?".
Ooh, Elizabeth kissed Cap Jack and Will sawed it. I was beside myself with joy when I saw the Kraken. Kraken=teh K00l.
The final scene on the island with Cap Jack squaring off against Will and Norrington was great. The bit where Elizabeth was twittering about trying to get them to stop fighting, finally resorting to feigning heat exaustion and falling to the ground dramatically- to absolutely no one's dismay or notice- was probably one of my favourite bits.
Jack's ending-Brill. I hope I go out like that.
See, I liked the segue quality to the film. Mainly because it means there'll be another, probably...
The entire thing left me grinning. Loved it, will probably see it again if I can afford it after Supes.

Seconded. There was a truly comic moment where Elizabeth and the 2 rubbish pirates were running from the fish-people with the treasure chest, and that giant wheels rolls by in the background with Jack, Commodore and Will having a sword fight on it, oblivious to the fish people.saysadie wrote:

I really enjoyed the film. It doesnt take itself too seriously.
Any ideas when part 3 is out??

I've heard December or May. I'd suggest that May is more likely.Hound wrote:saysadie wrote:

Does anyone have the picture of that last scene with Jack? I'd love for that to be my desktop image.

Ahhhh now I have an explanation for the monkey thing.

Happy happy. Though it could have been made clearer, IMO. Ah well.
Anyone stay for the bit at the end of the credits? I missed it and am curious as to what it was.

Don't know what's wrong with me.Best First wrote:although it felt a bit more all over the place than the first one.
And its got to be me, because everyone else (my family, you guys, etc.) liked it.
But it just didn't do it for me. As BF says, it seemed all over the place, very much over the top. I know, I know, its that kind of movie, but somehow I enjoyed the first movie much, much more.
Jack Sparrow just seemed more...like a sideshow somehow. The first thirty minutes I was hooked, but after that, I lost interest.
I was real tired the night I saw it, so maybe it was that.
"But the Costa story featuring Starscream? Fantastic! This guy is "The One", I just know it, just from these few pages. "--Yaya, who is never wrong.

Nothing's wrong with you. Not everyone's gonna like this movie- in fact, a lot of people don't.
I looooved it, but I have an extreme fondness for pirates/pirate legend/mythical sea monsters and the like so I'm weird [and not to mention biased] to begin with.

I think that's what I liked about it. I liked the ambliness, the "all over the place"... Though I see the point, in a film context... eh. :/ I'm a bit bothered by a couple of the reviews I've just read that said the same thing. "it's too long, it's all over the place, it's difficult to follow".... I didn't have trouble making out what was going on and I thought it was the perfect length.Yaya wrote: But it just didn't do it for me. I noticed that actually. Sadly, Depp's portrayal of Cap Jack seemed a bit... off when compared to the first.Yaya wrote:Jack Sparrow just seemed more...like a sideshow somehow. The first thirty minutes I was hooked, but after that, I lost interest.
