If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

I'm going for my first teaching interview tomorrow. If I get the job (with a company called AEON) I'll be moving to Japan and teaching English to Japanese students.
I've spent nearly a month preparing for this, but I'm still a bit nervous.

Good luck! I thinking about working for them once I finish my BA in education. The teaching scene is very competitive here. Everyone is getting degrees in education. Detroit is no longer an industrial city. Everything is closing. Delphi, Ford, the GM buy-out. It's looking grim. Times are changing for the US and the other G9 (Russia?) countries. We're going from an industrial nation to a clerical (white collar) one. I'd figure I'd work in Japan for 2-3 years and return to the US. It beats being a substitute for $70 a day, and I'll get 3 years of teaching experience under the belt. Plus, you make more than a substitue. Which city are you aiming for?

I'm aiming for Tokyo or Okinawa. Though I'd be happy with anything that's located close to public transportation.

You're going to be a teacher Smooth??
And I who can't even remember your real name anymore!
Good luck with your job, and if you do know japanese then I'm thoroughly impressed, since it appears to be a language as far removed from the anglo-germanian language-three that is humanly possible.

Well, I tried my best and failed. I can't say if there's more shame or less in that.
Thanks, everyone.

Often comes down as much to stuff beyond control as within -- I'm sure it's no reflection on your abilities.
Who are the next targets?
