Microsoft handheld

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Not quite a rival to the DS and PSP but an attack on the ipod.

Huge.

fugly.

would rather carry a laptop.

or a desktop pc.

Microsoft product design sector suck.

period.

It's ******* gigantic.
When I go out I just put my DS in my pocket. And if I don't wanna play, the DS is not in the way.

But that friggin thing... you can't just carry it around.

You think they'll bring out the "origami" shopping trolley to carry it and its car battery around when you're the man about town?

The movie/pics are entirely concept art. Nobody currently knows what the MS Origami is going to look like. It certainly won't be 'pocket' sized, but is designed to be a small, portable PC-like device (so is likely to include touchscreen, handwriting support, it's own high-end games package and multimedia players).

From what I've read it won't run XP but a system based on it... which probably means existing Windows software won't run (although I'd love to be proven wrong on that).

The price tag expected to be attractive to the average consumer, so I'm guessing £200-£300. A lot cheaper than a laptop, but more expensive than a DS- that said you get a lot more than you do with a DS but less than with a laptop.

well, the xbox was just a console. Admittedly a console that was a frickin big one, and Microsoft have said in the past that they design things big because thats what the American audience want, which is a pretty big sweeping statement to make, I wouldn't be surprised if it really was nearly that size!

I think the Xbox was big because they just used off the shelf PC components, where as 360 was designed from the ground up. and is pretty small, and very attractive really.

true but then you can put that behind the TV with other bits?

All next-gen consoles will require big PSU's due to the current these advanced chips pull - id be more surprised by a small PSU then anything else to be honest.

But then im a geek.

my PC has 500w PSU init to run all its gizmos.

Ill be interested to see what Nintendo do, because even tho the Gamecube was a small unit the PSU was almost as big as the GC itself!

don't even go there, had to replace my new 450w unit with a 550w recently because otherwise the comp would crash whenever i plugged a USB or firewire device in or any of the case fans kicked it up a notch. damn power hogs... managed to fry an IDE drive in one of the power outs! :(

nasty!

I got twin cpus 2 hard drives and my new g-card needs its own power...

Amazingly my comp runs pretty cool and silently - considering its 4 years old its well made and still runs any games I throw at it.

not meaning to get on my soapbox or complain too much, but it is starting to get ridiculous the amount of power needed by graphics cards... they're practically a PC in themselves!
(i've got a pci-e card which doesn't need a power cable attaching to it, but it probably just sucks it straight from the mobo - that probably wasn't helping my earlier power outages)

still, notepad opens nice and speedily i must say! ;)
