Catholic Outrage

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

doh!

i like the way, for some reason, they feel the need to point out that
George Clooney has played the role of a dog, while Osama Bin Laden was killed in an episode of the programme.
which hasn't really got anything to do with this particular issue... ;)

I like the "I haven't seen it, but it sounds revolting." Ah the moral majority and their well-informed views eh?

I do not understand how this kind of crap even gets started.

Catholics: Your TV show offends us! Don't show it anymore!

Comedy Central: Alright.

The reverse could NEVER happen.

Comedy Central: Your comments about our show offend us. Stop saying it..

Catholics: Alright.

How difficult is it to avoid watching a certain TV station at 10pm? There are, literally, over 1,000 channels to choose from.

As for the boycott... This just sounds incredibly stupid.

Catholics: We don't like this show! We're not gonna watch it!

Comedy Central: uh... Isn't that how this kind of thing works anyway? You don't like something, so you don't watch it.

Catholics: Well, if you show this cartoon, we're going to boycott everything else on every channel associated with this one!

I shake my head at this.

I noticed this line in the article:
its sister station TV3, which recently apologised for showing the Danish cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.
So, is there a double standard here? Why is it OK to show something that offends Catholics, but you have to apologise for something that offends Muslims?

Meh, 50% of all the problems in this world would be solved if we got rid of all religions.

I think closer to 100 percent would taken care of if we simply got rid of all religious people.

I think the best part of all of this is that it proves parker and stone's point. Basically they are saying these institutions are ridiculous and beurocratic, which puts them in opposition to common sense and freedom. Then the church goes and does something in total opposition to common sense and freedoms......

wow your really hurting south park on that one.

Because they actually do something when people offend their belief, while we catholics just write protesting letters.... Not that I agree with what the Muslims do.

Yay! A serious comment as opposed to just a random slagging off of religion. It really stands out in this thread.

I suppose that, in comparison to burning down Comedy Central's World New Headquarters in New York, the protest is quite peaceful.

I never realised that NewZealand had such a powerful Catholic lobby. Every New Zealander I've met seemed so laid back. I just wouldn't have imagined them getting such a bug up their arse about an episode of South Park.

That'll teach me to judge a country on the basis of a few students and backpackers...

Nah, the Mrs. is always telling me about families she knows where they're all into Christianity and stuff. Religion seems quite popular there. I guess there's not much else to do.

Thanks. 8)

Way I see it, the main difference is that catholics mostly go by 'turn the other cheek' while the Koran offers quite different solutions to insults, like "death to all infidels!"

of course how would I know... I have a Koran at home but never got to read it. Maybe I should, seeing as how Islam will propably take over this part of europe eventually... ;)

We in Hungary had the Turks here in power for 150 years, but they were mostly tolerant... mostly means that after the regular pillaging and mass murdering, they allowed the survivors to keep their catholic/protestant faiths, as long as they paid tax. Of course, those converting to islam got tax immunity, but only few did that (and they regretted it after the Turks were driven out...)

It basically says "respect the Jews and Christians, but non-believers will burn".

Like all religons in history, the 'young religons' are generally violent.

Take christians and the crusades, belive in god or die, offend god, burn etc...
