And I started it first....

I'm seeing it tonight, 9:00 Utah time, which is eight hours behind London. Yereeee.... (kind of like the sound of air leaving a balloon)

It won't last the distance, unfortunately, as it is clearly the superior thread, being started by the ultimate Firefly fan at TransFans - Brend.

I just got back! Damn, that was one hell of a show! Possibly the best space movie I've ever seen. To make a good thing even better, I stopped at Wal-Mart on the way back and picked up Energon Megatron for 10 bucks. Then, just when it can't get any better, I get to my apartment and I find 5 bucks just laying on the floor in the lobby. It's like I saw Serenity for free! Damn fine evening! Damn fine movie! Damn!

I loved it... I cried and my muscles were tensed up for about the last hour. We also got the Visual Companion, which has the script in it, and so I read the script when we got home. And then I found out that Titan Books were the ones who put the VC out. Yay for them. There were some cut scenes in he VC, including one where another Companion asks Inara about her "torrid love affair with a pirate."

I have never seen Firefly but the trailer for Serenity rocked. Me and my wife loved it and left the theater fulfilled for the first time in a long time.

While I didnt get to know Wash or Book at all since not seeing the series I must say they had one of the best death scenes I have ever seen. Book dying taking "unchristianlike" revenge on the Alliance ship that attacked Haven. And Wash just dying instantly after his superb flying that saved the rest of the crew. I like how he didnt have any annoying last word like they do in so many movies. This raised the stakes during the crews last stand that made it seem like any of them could have died at any moment. I must say the Operative was one of the most coolest and honorable villains I have ever seen. And Inarra is so freaking beautiful, how come she hasnt been in more projects. Well Im off to find a copy of Firefly on DVD. Laters

And that's the happiest I've felt leaving a cinema in a very long time.

Absolutely ******* marvellous.

I could stand here a bit longer.

SPOILERS

Man, that was fantastic. My only regret is that we probably could have had that much quality over 3 series or mores worth of TV rather than a 2 hour movie. But that's it.

Gutted about Wash and Book, accidentaly read Nate's post so i new 2 would die. I had Book pegged pretty early on but no idea who else it would be - what a shock - poor Zoe. But as much as i hate to see loved characters die the sense of threat was fanstasic, i was worried about everyone even when Wash was dead and i had ticked 2 off.

Sadly there was a fairly massive spolier with regard to River's secrets in the bloody Guardian review i read - i have actually complained for once rather than just griping.

but what a film. what a film.

Bloody brilliant.

Yeah, I caught that after I'd seen it on Thursday, but it still annoyed me.

I knew about Wash in advance through silliness on my part - I picked up the official companion magazine a few weeks back and was skimming through the standard innocuous interviews when I stumbled across a quote from Tudyk saying "I think Wash was a great character to kill off". I blink and flick my eyes upwards to see "SPOILERS!!" at the top of the column.

Great.

Still had my doubts about the others, though. A part of me genuinely believed Zoe saying "Do you think any of us are going to get through this?" or whatever it was. I really thought Joss might go all Wild Bunch.

Saw it again tonight. w00ty.
Grrr. Argh.

I'm trying to get my brother-in-law to go see it with me tomorrow night instead of Wallace and Gromit, which our women want to see. I want to see W&G as well, but spreading the gospel comes first.

More spoilers: (as if you had to ask)

I definitely thought that the storyline would have fared better in the TV show. We would have been able to see Simon and Kaylee's romance develop, and watch Zoe learn to live without Wash (which I still want to see.) But for a two-hour movie, that was all I could ask for and more. The scene where River kills all the Reavers together blew me off my seat. That was amazing. And in the end, when Jayne, Zoe, and even Simon were all wounded by the Reavers, I really was afraid that all of them would die.

Sigh... I guess it was a good thing Wash died. But... they were going to have a baby! A cute little half Wash, half Zoe baby. Sniff. I should have put "Did you cry?" in the poll.

brilliant wasn't it? Altho i loved K's determination not to die so she could get some.

Oh, and just so we are clear, that was better than Star Wars. And i mean proper Star Wars.

Kaylee's motivation: Sex.

Gotta love that.

"Are you willing to die for your beliefs?"
"Yes. Just wasn't Plan A..."

The bit with River and the Reavers felt a bit too Buffy. Just without the annoying blonde bint. Not to say it wasn't absolutely spectacular, it just felt a bit too familiar.
Oh, and just so we are clear, that was better than Star Wars. And i mean proper Star Wars.
Absence of comedy robots? Check.
"Not an Evil Empire"? Check.
No stupid aliens? Check.
No silly mysticism? Check. Well, if you ignore the whole psychic thing...
A threatening villain who doesn't pull it off by hiding in a helmet? Check.
Convincing youth who is a reluctant hero? Check

Oh, and Mal shoots first. Every. Single. Time.

"Don't be afraid to run off and leave them to die."

The Reavers were quite the powerhouse. I'm honestly a bit surprised it was only PG-13.

"It should have been me, not you" - Mal (Something to that effect)

"The thought had crossed my mind..." - Book

It's a 15 certificate over here, which I felt was purdy fair.

"You did right."
"Coming from you, that means... close to nothing."

Still fantastic the third time round. Close to 50 peeps in the cinema each time, too (Thur eve, Fri eve, Sun aft)

***********SPOILERS************

It was fantastic.

I was gutted about Wash. I loved him. Whedon has that ability to kill people when you least expect it (although I saw Book dying from a mile off). But at the end of the film, I was exhausted, I think I went through almost every emotion watching it.

The Daily Mail don't put film reviews online (because they're rubbish) and gave it 2 stars. But I don't really give a toss about the opinions of Mail readers/journalists. The Financial Times is subscription only, so they can [composite word including 'f*ck'] off. And I can't find films at The Express' website. Rubbish!

Ahem.

You know, I spent a week of this summer with Orson Scott Card at a writing workshop. Other than his horrifying political views, I really like the guy.

Okay. This is interesting.

Anybody in the UK who's already a fan of Firefly will probably be so because they own the DVDs, right? Unless they've been watching it on the Sci-Fi Channel, but even then that'll only be because of the movie-promotion reruns that were on a week or so ago.

So, the only people buying the sets will be folks turned onto it by the movie, yeah?
