My sister is in the hospital

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

My sister is in the hospital

Post by Eline » Fri Sep 30, 2005 12:47 pm

Yesterday I went to the hospital to visit my sister. She had her appendix taken out the day before because it had broken.

She is sort of okay now, sleeping a lot, though she still cannot eat, and has a tube in her veins with antibiotics and salt-glucose stuff. She has to stay at least until Monday.

I am a bit worried, because I've never had close family in the hospital, and because it happened suddenly without warning. When my mom called me on Wednesday, she was already in surgery. And it's not nice to see your sister there instead of running around and cooking and just being healthy. And there is nothing I can do, except visit her.

I know/hope she'll be fine, but I feel miserable. The last time someone close to me was in the hospital was because she had died.

Sorry to hear that Eline!

I'm sure you've not got anything to be too worried about, having your appendix removed has got to be one of the most common operations to undergo in this day and age isn't it?

Hope you sister picks up soon (i'm sure she will)! :)

Hospitals are depressing anyway.

Tell her to get well soon. :)

I would really freak out if my sister got sent to the hospital :(

But I'm sure everything'll turn out fine :)
Can't believe I'm still here.

thanks guys :)

Yesterday I brought her a lucky bamboo thingy in a vase, a magazine and a big pink pillow to hug, hope that helps her a bit.

I'm going to visit her again this weekend.

I know that she will be okay, and that it's not a life-threathening situation, but rationality seems more elusive when it concerns someone close to you. Being very tired doesn't help either.

But I'm sure she'll be okay soon. :)

I trust she'll be out in a few days. My cousin had this and so did my ex - her doctor misdiagnosed hers and she nearly died because they didn't take the appendix out in time - but once it's out that's good news. Take care.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

Im sure shell be fine Eline. It is a fairly common surgery. You should get some rest so you can give you sister a big hug when she gets out of the hospital. :)

As strange as it may sound - thanks for calling me about this, Eline.

I am positive she'll be on her feet and back to being her mischievous self very soon!

You take care also. You're a good sister. * hug *

I offer my condolences Eline. When a person in your family ends up in hospital it can be very scary.

Luckily, :) it wasn't as bad as it could have been. Like many have said, removing a ruptured appendix is a very common operation. In fact, it's so common that the procedure for it has been perfected and simplified so as that it only takes about 15 minutes to complete.

I'd be very surprised if your sister didn't make a full recovery.

Take good care of yourself and your loved ones. :)

Thanks guys. :)

I'm sure she will be fine, I just want her to be fine NOW. Just have to be patient.

She was in surgery for an hour, not 15 minutes. :( I guess that takes some time to recover.

I'm going to see her again today, hope she'll be better than yesterday!
