Console games - a question

I've been thinking about buying my first console, and I'd like a Nintendo DS.

Went to the shops, and they cost about €150 which is doable.

But then the games! €45 for one game! Insanely expensive!

My boyfriend says: "but you can play a very long time with one game, so you don't need to buy lots"
but I'm not sure I believe him.

Is this true? Or will I waste all my money on computer games? What is your experience with console games?

I'd really like to have one, but I also need to buy clothes and makeup.

The cost DS games is somthing of concern right now - the length of a game is subjective tho. a good RPG like final fantasy could take 60 hours to complete. a fighting game like street fighter has no ending untill u get bored.

DS games on the other hand lean more towards quick pick up and play. id read some reviews first to make sure the game sounds like they type u would like to play.

My suggestion would be to import the games. It works out far cheaper for us Europeans and you get games long before a European release.

www.dvdboxoffice.com is pretty good, as is www.liksang.com

For example you could import a copy of Nintendogs from DVDboxoffice.com for $45 Canadian which is roughly 30 Euros, and postage is free

All games have questionable lifespan. Some DS games are longer than others. Mario 64 has a huge main adventure and lots of minigames which use the stylus which are endlessly playable. Also, Meteos is the kind of game which never really ends. Other games like Wario Ware and Kirby are perhaps better for a quick pick up and play, which is generally what I expect from a handheld system myself

can u buy mario 64 plus an N64 for the cost of a DS plus mario 64?

I expect so, but taking it on a train or on holiday would be difficult

Best just buy myself a ps1 and a copy of the wipeout games and not bother with a PSP whilst I'm at it...

Personally I didn't feel any inclination to go out and get 'new' games, and a handful of party-ish titles were easily sourced. Still didn't actually use the thing much, though.

Can the DS be used as a notepad?

I'll look and check which games I really want, and then maybe buy two. Probably puzzle games or something like that. Easy to learn but addictive to play

Import sounds good, because the shop I went to had no more than 10 DS games...

Good call Pred, Meteos is one of the most addictive games i have played since Tetris. Its very much a game which could only be done on the DS because of the stylus input

Meteos is one game I will definitely buy.

But I'm also considering some GBA titles like harvest moon girl (or something...), they will be cheaper I hope.

Sadly GBA games are the same price as DS games, which makes little sense really. There is a version of Harvest Moon coming out for DS, probably next year though, I love Harvest Moon

Another game which is along the same lines is Animal Crossing, which is one of my fave games on the Gamecube, and that is out in November, also worth looking out for is Lost in Blue, where you play as a bunch of kids stranded on a tropical island and you have to make sure they survive by living off the land and stuff. Sounds great
