Out of interest, what do you think of this 4 parter from the TF UK comic from 1986 (issues 47 to 50)?

It sure seems that way, doesn't it?spiderfrommars wrote:Was Matrix Quest a Dinobot Hunt rip off?
Prime sends teams of three out to find something they've misplaced.
One Decepticon team defeats an Autobot team, learns of their quest/hunt and decides to join in on the action.
By the end of it, the Decepticons have turned their quarry against the Autobots, resulting in lots of Autobot casualties, at least one Autobot's loyalty is tested, and an unhappy Prime knows he hasn't won anything.

As a 9 or 10 year-old, reading Dinobot Hunt for the first time taught me that the goodies don't always win. And that's a vital thing for anyone to learn at that age, especially when it never happens in other media. Dinobot Hunt is great.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

it's one of my fave stories! it showcased some very underused characters (cliffjumper, gears et al) and had a sensible plot. The cons were a threatening force for once too. It showed that the Autobots were actual characters not just stereotypical good guys (in a similar way to the earlier Crisis of Command had done, but much more so) - particulary in certain bot's reaction to Jetfire.
Oh and Impy, wasn't it Sideswipe that made the distress call? we see Ratchet trying to patch Bluestruck up at the beginning of the next issue.

Dinobot Hunt is the glove. of truth.
At the time i just got issue 50 and the opening, with a ****ed up sidesipe relaying the message fascinated me. The issues with more direct Decep involvement seem to be slightly better (coincidentally also the sones with the better art) as they advance the plot more and also we get so see how Soundwave is clearly, obvioulsy, irrefutably the best con leader ever.
Except Scorponok. But he was a rubbish as a con leader, he just happend to be a great character whilst being a rubbish con leader. egads!
Oh, and for the sake of topicallity, it pisses all over Time wars.

Yeah, as evidence by such incidents such asImpactor returns 2.0 wrote:the concept is nice, but the script compared to TW is a bit wank-o-crap-bottoms

ill dig out a line, but im not going to find legions of characters who do nothing, as that doesnt happen in TW either.
Galvy and megs trash em all. or the others are having a chat to prime. some of them kill Ultra Magnus which is good, and other just flake off as they know they are gonna die.
im of to dig out a dino bot line

no they don't. \what happens to all the 'bots at he Ark? Why send... Max, Grimlock and Swoop? What does everyone else do. What abouthe rest of Scorponok's con's who just vanish? What does Soundwave and co do? red alert?Impactor returns 2.0 wrote:ill dig out a line, but im not going to find legions of characters who do nothing, as that doesnt happen in TW either.

Being extra canon fodder or standing around while Prime spours is not a story contribution either. They don't do anything as CHARACHTERS, so who cares? The only decent character interaction in the whole thing is Springer and Carny.
oh, a TW style cop out. How apt.and other just flake off as they know they are gonna die.
Time Wars is an entertaining mess with litle focus which wouldn't be so badif it was stand alone but as a conlusion to a 100 issue + story line it is limp, DH on the other hand is tight like a tiger.

Well I dont agree, I think TW concludes lots of bits of different stories, so there might be some standing around, but they need to sort things out.
I see TW as somthing different to DIn-Bot hunt. and whilst I still think TW should have two more issues, the focus is clrealy on the Galvatron.
I still enjoy it, maybe my brain fills in the gaps.
Dinobot hunt is cool its got some nice character interaction, and its story setup is great for working the different personalities in the teams,
I also love this line "The Dinobot is ours, VICTORY BELONGS TO THE DECEPTICONS"
hurah!

Isn't a huge part of the focus in the first part pretty much on Soundwave and the Terrorcons?Impactor returns 2.0 wrote:Well I dont agree, I think TW concludes lots of bits of different stories, so there might be some standing around, but they need to sort things out.
And what do they actually do?
They stand there for a bit. Then leave.
Why? What purpose does that possibly serve? It didn't sort out anything from a previous story. It wasn't paid off later. It was just pointless - padding in a story that had huge pacing problems as it was.
Rubbish!
Fun, but still rubbish.
Grrr. Argh.

Im not sure why because Soundwave turns up and observes whats going on is rubbish tho. does everyone have to do somthing? I think its just setting the scene, and more to the point, is thier being there an unstablising factor to the time storm.
Because the future bots chase galvy back through time, the cons chase the bots out of intrigue it all culminates in destroying quintisson and nearly earth.
Its just setting things in place if you ask me, the good stuff happens around the wreckers and mayhems, scourge and shockwave, and of course galvy and megatron.

Course not. Extra things that don't have anything to do with anything can be nice. But it's daft when the first chapter of the story revolves around them and the whole thing fizzles out due to lack of time left.Impactor returns 2.0 wrote:Im not sure why because Soundwave turns up and observes whats going on is rubbish tho. does everyone have to do somthing?
It has pacing issues. You say yerself that it needs two more issues at the end. Part of why the story runs out of time is because space was wasted on a plot thread that didn't actually do anything.
Story needed a decent editor working on it.
Random analogy: Alien Resurrection. Cut out the superfluous crap with the human/alien hybrid and suddenly it's a lot better. And you can use the time freed up to do something better and have a proper ending.
Time Wars = AR.
Grrr. Argh.

Funny I always view AR as the posiden adventure in space with monsters, yet I dont see TW that way.
For me TW has faults and flaws thats a given, but it also has great showcases.
Its a bit like supercars, they are impracticle, loud, brash and pointless - but somthing makes you want it.
You know what I never understand, considering how many naff stories there are out there, why didnt they let them right a few extra issues? I mean what did it matter?
