It's difficult to find something "worth it", isn't

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Suppose in some cases it's down to acceptance and settling? I've never been much of a one for either. Though I think in most cases it's mainly been down to a certain sort of fear.

Too pigheaded for anything, highly confrontational... Y'ever get the sense you're a lot like the parent you've never really gotten along with/never really wanted to be like, in most senses?

It's not such a bad thing. As with most things, mixed good and bad. Hoping that understanding it will change the negative aspects. But can a person really change something like that?

Verymuchso a "random musing" Sunday, I think. :p Ugh, work. Nice people, but I'm not looking forward to plastic pleasantries.

Very cryptic post.

I have a lot of qualities my dad does and some of his negative aspects too, as I also do with my mother. I remember tho that I am my own person- I am neither my mother nor my father. Regardless of what my make up is who I am and what I am is entirely down to me and the choices I make :)

Ugh... i quite often see things in myself that remind me of my parents, normally it is a kind of 'oh god no' moment, not that i dont like or get on with my parents, it's just that i've always prided myself on being different from my parents, and as i get older this is turning out to not be the case...

Hey! Hi, yeah - good to see you! How are you? Really, that's great. Yeah, really good to see you again. Mm-hm, yeah. Great. Okay, yeah, well I'll catch you later on maybe. Take care!

Yes, I don't think I'll ever get used to the "hi, how are you" on the phone from people I have never, or hardly ever, seen. I hope they are just being nice, but to me it sounds really weird. It's just not a dutch thing.

And the bad thing is that you start to ask everyone "how are you" yourself. :(

It's really bad, but I feel like I'm taking on certain 'dodgy' aspects of my parents.

Like my dad, Barry George, I also am obsessed with fame and feel the urge to kill a tv newsreader.

My other dad is Fred West.

I could start believing in some random mumbo jumbo, but that would be mental.

Huh?

I think if you're feeling perpetually bored, take three months and have an adventure. Road trip if you're broke. England trip if you want to go into severe debt. It makes you feel better when you settle back in to normal life. Of course, then your shoulder starts to hurt and there's nothing for it but the Gray Havens.

Sprunk, you've no idea how much I would love to do either of those. As it is I can't even afford to eat.

I'd say it's less bored, more... numb. Things are very uncertain at the moment; I've felt similar at various points in time. I'm sure it'll pass once I manage to get a bit of ground back under my feet, am able to put some money on a few outstanding bills, find the second job I need to do that and am finally able to sleep again.

I'm so incredibly tempted to just let things go to hell. Tell responsibilities, family and friends to go [composite word including 'f*ck'] themselves, take whatever money I have left and spend it doing stupid things. Stay out for days and not come home. It's far easier than trying.

And the people just bore me. Small talk, everyday everyone uninvited and as much as I'd like to and try to be interested right now I'm just not.

And yes, I could believe in some mumbo jumbo too. It works for some. But I think it would be fairly mental also.

Actually, I've been reading the Salmon Of Doubt. It's loverly and the articles in it make me smile.

Always to the positive, you see. ******* tiring positive hope for better each and every day but a dull nameless something else keeping me up at night now. The inside of churches are pretty.

If google's giving me the right guy, Satre sounds interesting. How do I sound like I've been reading too much, though?
Legion wrote:y'see i had something entirely different in mind with the phrase "plastic pleasantries"...
:o I didn't even think of that.

But it really is all very plastic. Most people bore the **** out of me, especially when they start agreeing with everything I say... I slowly lose respect for and interest in people who exhibit no real opinions of their own, or start out sounding like they have a mind of their own but slowly seem to change the things they say during conversation so that eventually, everything they're saying agrees with what's coming out of your mouth. On the other side of that are the arrogant assholes who think their opinions/they themselves are the greatest. Yawn.

I wish there were such a thing as "No Manners Day" on a worldwide holiday scale. Things would be infinitely more interesting then...

Or like I keep saying, I wish there was one day of the year where people claimed territory/possessions by peeing on them or by otherwise marking them.

...

If I ever become Supreme Unquestioned Ruler of the Entire World and Bits of Australia, I'm going to declare every other Thursday "Pee on Your Neighbor's Hot Spouse" day. It'll be called that, but really, you could pee on anything and it'd be yours, free and clear.

That'd be a great ice breaker, anyway.

Hope you're enjoying Salmon...it's one of my most favourite books...

*Not implying that all ginger people smell of urine...just all the ones I've met in real life
