Weren't the original seekers F-15 Tomcats?
Which would make the coneheads modified F-15s, though I don't know of any that really looked like that. I imagine Thrust is the most likely to exist in real life with the VTOL stuff, but I've never seen one...

Well, it's not really that much of a stretch to imagine someone taking the Tomcat fuselage and applying delta-wing technology to it - Dirge & Ramjet.Metal Vendetta wrote:Weren't the original seekers F-15 Tomcats?

As for Thrust...
...I'd imagine, knowing a spattering about aerodynamics and airframes, that having two massive holes in your wings would just about counter any airflow and nullify the resultant lifting effect. Thrust, therefore, has about as much chance of gaining altitude as a housebrick on a rollerskate.I imagine Thrust is the most likely to exist in real life with the VTOL stuff, but I've never seen one...

Starscream etc were Eagles.
The Skystriker in GI Joe/AF was a Tomcat.
Sunstreaker is a touring custom Lambo Countach LP500S

Hey, here's an interesting page I just re-found.

damm - too late, but Kingmob beat me to all the correct information.
Ill be surprised if in the new movie the seekers can be F-15's - why?
Because, in Independence day, the good guys (will smith) fly F-18's and are called the black Knights, the ace flying combat group of the US airforce. in reality the Black Knights are an F-15 troupe but the US gov wouldnt allow the use of the F-15 image in ID because they still belive in national security on the supposedly most deadly plane in the world today...
yay - crap fact me!

Dirge looks kinda like a Gripen to me... Those nose-stabiliser, for example.KingMob wrote:Cosmos is pretty good...

Thrust, well there were some experimental planes with those VTOL wings, I believe, but not F-15s.
"I've come to believe you are working for the enemy, Vervain. There is no other explanation... for your idiocy." (General Woundwort)
Tailwind?
Cool ID4 info. I had kinda thought the F-15s were outdated now, but saying that I think the Strike Eagle is still pretty top? The F-15E or something, I'm remembering this from a Tom Clancy book so it might well be horlicks.
I wonder what they would use instead? F-22 is an obvious choice, but there are non-G1 Starscreams based on that jet, so does that bugger that up?
The Joint Strike Fighter was my next thought, but I think Armada Thrust was based on that.
What's left? Hornet? They're quite cool looking.
What's a Gripen? I didn't know about that 'Dirge'-style Eagle till I went browsing. Kinda cool.
edit: nevermind, soz, found it. Gripen

I do indeed. Bristol, England - not more than a few minutes drive for me.Predabot wrote:I hope you all know by now where the Gripen was designed and partially manufactured...
Hence the BAe Systems logo appearing on the Gripen website.
Oh, sorry Predabot. I didn't realise you actually meant "where the Gripen concept was orignally conceived, and the aircraft eventually assembled..."
