It's Wednesday and you know what that means! Well, actually, you don't yet. I haven't told you. But I'm about to. Ready? Alright. Wednesday will be the weekly update for The Professor Smooth Rumor Forum! There may be a couple of smaller updates during the week if anything comes up or if I feel like bothering. But you can count on an update Wednesday (US Central Time Wednesday, mind you). With very little further exposition, here's the week's rumor:
If you don't pre-order your Star Convoy (pictured below) NOW, you may not get one since the figure is being released on a "made to order" basis.
This is tricky. It's not exactly a "Yes, this is true" or "No, are you crazy, this is crap!" answer. So, I'll take up as much space as I feel appropriate to delve into the details of this particular rumor.
First of all, by all accounts that I've seen, heard, read, or dreamed, this figure will only be "minted" once. That one time will match the number of pre-orders that Takara receives for it. This much seems to be true. Let me consult a fairly well respected TF news source on this, just in case you don't believe me.
Please welcome (via AIM) TFW2005's own Kickback!
Kickback: Yo.
Pr0fess0rSm00th: I'm doing this rumors thing again. Can you tell us what the deal with the Star Convoy reissue is?
Kickback: Only so many being made.
Pr0fess0rSm00th: Thanks!
Thanks to Kickback for his time!
So yeah, they'll only make as many as are ordered. But, here's the part a great many people seem to be forgetting. While Takara's only making as many as are pre-ordered, stores like Big Bad Toy Store and Action-HQ (both excellent retailers) will NOT be placing their orders based on pre-orders. So, with the news that Star Convoy will be made to order, online retailers will be ordering as heavily as possible. Pre-ordering soon will prevent you from missing the boat, but this figure will not be impossible to find from the get-go.
While this figure probably won't be warming shelves for (going on) three years like God Ginrai, you won't be having an easier time finding a vintage Star Convoy either.
So, there's this week's entry. Hope you don't want your two minutes back.
