Just brought "Don't believe the truth" as a on the spot purchase from Itunes. But with susposed great bands all recently releasing new albums I though why not make a thread of people recomending great albums to others.
Give a great album and maybe an explaination of why it's great and who might like it (Commercial rock, Indie type rock, obscure rock band, pop, 80's metal, rap, for queen fans, etc)
The Beatles-Revolver.
I've played this to friends who don't like the beatles and even they have to say it's a great one. Often at the top of greatest lists but I know very few people who have it. It's my fav album and introduced the era of the Beatles where they became great as album makers. It's a third physdelic (Tomorrow never knows, i'm only sleeping, She said, she said), quarter great ballards (indeed the beatles 2 best ballardsare on this in "For no one" and "Here, there and everywhere") and the usual beatles stuff. Every song is really great and most are classics (Elenanor Rigby, Taxman). A perfect relaxed listening album. The sort that fits a summer day perfectly.
Radiohead-OK computer.
The ultimate Radiohead album. Afterwards the forgot mellody half the time and before they weren't as good.
It's dark and moody and every song hooks you in. Often my mates say it's to depressing but I find the songs are so good I completely enjoy listening to them. I love listening to it in the dark for some reason.
G4 - G4
A strange one.
Brought it on impulse and out of curiosity. It's a set of covers (and I normally hate covers) in a good, cod opera style. Imagine Queen in the 70's with the electric guitars replaced by classical instruments. In that respect it nicely sounds very fresh in relation to most pop records.
Stand outs are "Anybody hurts", "Life on mars" and "You'll never walk alone". It even has a good cover of "Bohemian Rhapsody" a song thats had some of the worst covers of all time. It's all actually rather good as a classical lite record if you only have a passing interest in classical music.
The great album thread

Pop Will Eat Itself - This Is The Day, This Is The Hour, This Is This!
If you never listen to another album in your life, check out this cartoon/comic/dance/proto-industrial classic from 1989! It has Transformers The Movie samples from when they were still topical. It has references to everything you've ever heard of, from V for Vendetta and Watchmen to the Terminator, Furry Freak Brothers, Robocop, Blade Runner, Optimus Prime and (not) Galvatron. It's an absolute stormer, and if you don't already own it, why the [composite word including 'f*ck'] not?

The-kinks-To the bone
A great live album. The croud joins in each song is equally as great as the studio recorded version and it's anotehr fav for sunny days for those of us who are still trapped in the greatness of the late 60's/70's music.
Pink Floyd-Wish you were here
Their best album IMO. It's slow burning and builds up nicely before returning to the beginning to end epicly. Only 4 different tunes but each is segmented and Shine on you crazy diamonds is one of the grestest peices of music ever. psychedelic in a calmer way to most bands 60's efforts.
