Well, oi bee goin' to the states again this summer (I plan to work there after my degree) and have been researching prices. I'm planning to go on the 18th July and come back on the 10th August.
Now I was rummaging through the quotes, and was dismayed to discover prices starting at about £580!!
Eep! I thought. I can't afford that!
Then I realised what I've often said before. I was looking for flights 8 weeks in the future and at peak time. No wonder they were high. But would they get cheaper?
Well ok, I thought to myself, when you were price checking 4 weeks ago how much was a flight to the USA in June? About £400!
How much are they now?
£209-£229.
Aha. Maybe I shouldn't be so worried after all. I feel if I let June elapse and go into July, whilst prices will still be higher than out of season, I think if I rummage and find some last minute (i.e. leaving tomorrow, we either sell the seat at a discount or lose money) prices which are far more acceptable.
Thats the nice thing about the tourism industry, you can't store your product when it doesn't sell. You either discount it and make some money or it goes to waste and you make nothing.
Anyone any more advice on that, perhaps on good places to hunt for flights? cheapflights.co.uk is pretty good I find, they seem to get most of the data for flights leaving in the next couple of weeks from all major (and minor) providers.
Flight prices?
