I honestly have no idea. Shows how well their campaign's being advertised.Brendocon wrote:Isn't the main premise to get G8 to scrap all the debt? Or something.
I'm morally empty on the subject. I'm just in it for the concert...
Even the debt, grossly unfair as it is, is still secondary imo to actually getting more of the existing aid to people who need it. Which sadly involves overthrowing at least 4 governments in Africa

They keep mumbling about influencing the G8, but aren't too specific about exactly what influence they want to have/expect.
I'm not bothered about being there for the sake of having been there, it's more the notion of seeing Keane, Muse, Coldplay and U2 for the cost of a text message. Oh, and Snoop.Impactor returns 2.0 wrote:as are many other ppl so they can say "I was there"
Grrr. Argh.
Was it Live Aid or Band Aid where Geldof pretty much rang people up and said "I've told the press you're doing it" whether they'd agreed or not, because he knew nobody would want the negative press of pulling out?spiderfrommars wrote:Live Aid '85 was more a case of "who wasn't doing it."
That's nerve.

The fact that if all the people listed gave about 10% of their wealth they would probably raise more money themselves?Impactor returns 2.0 wrote:somthing about it reeks of **** i just cant work it out...
These people don't care - its ****ing lipservice. Its good PR. Bobn Geldof wandering round Africa saying 'oh this is awful' in a pair of sunglasses that could probably feed the village he is yabbering about for a week.
Like wiping out the debt - as stated get rid of the corrupt ****ers and the reasons the debt continues to grow.
Once you have done that, if you can wipe out the debt great.
But at the moment its a largely meaningless gesture IMO. The debt will just grow again, nothing will really change.
