right...
so those wristband thingies - i'm sure they piss some people off, but i don't really mind them.
But...
There are ones that say 'Make Poverty History' yeah? Seems like a good idea by and large, well intentioned and all that.
However now there are ones that say 'Make Child Poverty History'.
er... is it me, or was there no need to redefine that particular position? These people need introducing to the concept of the Venn Diagram. What we now have is wristbands actively promoting caring less as far as i can tell.
or are there people out there who only care about bad things when they happen to people under a certain age?
"Hmm, i'd happily support that charity if only they didn't help adults as well as children"
gah.

i've been wearing a "make poverty history" band for a couple of months now, so i think you can say that i don't mind them either! ;-)
i'd not seen about the "make child poverty history" ones though and you're right, did that need specifying?!
maybe the next ones will be "make left-handed mute children from countries beginning with A in the third world history"... although they might have to make them belts instead of wrist/arm bands...

Yes. Those people do exist and they exist in absolutely huge numbers. There are some homeless shelters in the US that help only homeless women and children.Best First wrote:right...

It's because children are cute. Therefore there are people who will support child-related charities over and above more worthy but less cute causes. Same with animal charities - they get an obscenely high proportion of charitable giving just because they're seen as protecting cute fluffy animals. Pathetic really.

And this is why I thank my genes that I wasn't born a couple of thousand-odd miles further south and do speak from time to time!Legion wrote:maybe the next ones will be "make left-handed mute children from countries beginning with A in the third world history"... although they might have to make them belts instead of wrist/arm bands...
Beat Bully - or just bully someone with the wristband into giving it to you.
