Furmans weakest moment?
Or maybe just because he was toned down from Buds role he was more in context?
Beating old stratux his greatest moment?
is soundwave his brother? (hang me)

Comic: Moody, looked like Robocop when drawn with visor.
Cartoon: Like cartoon Jazz, but on some kind of happy drug.
Soundwave's brother? What with all his rhyming-speak in the cartoon, surely Blaster is Wheelie's brother (shudder).
Perhaps Soundwave, Jazz, Wheelie (and Robocop) are ALL related.
Personally, I liked Blaster - even though his toy was nowhere near as good as Soundwave.

Best moment: desperately trying to save Scrounge
Worst Moment: being in the cartoon
I also like the way Blaster was always quick to jump to conclusions. like with Goldbug (or was he Bumblebee during the scraplet fiasco, cant exactly remember).
Seemed like he would be a competent field commander, like Magnus or Impactor, but not as overall leader of the Autobots.

Blaster was a "Wolverine" type loner in budiansky issues. He was a very decent fighter and I would put him in the same league of Grimlock (just in that issues, later, Furman Grim would rip him like trash). Later, although his appearance was very downgraded we can still see a few details of his importance in some incidents like being one of the only survivors in Klo, or the meetings before their escape of Cybertron.
Best Moment: Straxus, his rebellion against Grimlock
Worst Moment: Being deactivated and out of the picture for so much time?

I quite enjoy Blaster in the movie - a bit of a guilty pleasure. "Whats shaking, other than this fortress?" etc. Even if he vanishes half way though.
Obviously Budiansky did the best job. Blaster's presence even elevated the likes of Club Con (though not Used Autobots). The Smelting Pool and Scraplet sagas were some of Bob's best. And Blaster was one of the only characters I was gutted to see die in the Underbase saga.
It was a treat to see him again in the later issues, but it wasn't quite the same.

I've talked about Blaster on here before, the idea that he was a kind of superhero within the Autobot ranks. When he wears his vizor, he's tough decisive and everyone likes him (except possibly Grimlock). As soon as he retracts the vizor, he's just the gimpy communications officer and everyone ignores him. It's possible that the other Autobots don't even know it's the same 'bot, just look at Bumblebee/Goldbug. With the vizor, Goldbug left the Autobots and risked his life for Blaster. Afterwards, Bumblebee doesn't even give him the time of day. And Blaster's reduced to calling everyone "dudes" to try and sound cool.
Basically, Blaster + vizor = teh roXx0rz.
Blaster - vizor = teh suXx0rz.

I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

I hate Blaster. Seriously. All versions of him.
Never really warmed to the comic version... yeah, I can see why people like him and all, but he never did a damn thing for me. It's a bit like Batman, yeah he's a bit of a hardcase renegade no rules whatever blah blah authority shut up Grimlock kinda guy... but really I never connected with him for that or anything else.
Cartoon incarnation can go to hell.
I realise I am alone on this, but I dislike him intensely. Though nowhere near as intensely as Fangry, who spent god knows how many issues skulking about being everybody's bitch before suddenly declaring that he takes orders from nobody and acting as if he had some form of reputation for it. Damn well deserved a fist through the chest.

There were some characters who got characterisation in the cartoon but not the comic. Can't think who off the top of my head, though.fort_max wrote:Can't that be said of just about every character, though? Ha!ShadowSonic wrote:Cyclonus and Scourge were more likable in the cartoon.
Cyc in the cartoon was a genric Lt gimp who got beaten up by Galvy every single week, never developed past that because the cartoon didnt have a time line.
Scourge, what was he? a non-consistent character.
Im sorry but in the comic they are far superior, they start as they should, Galvatrons Lt's then develop into indviduals thanks to writting, have some brillant moments between them with self bickering and such.
Bah theres no comparison.
Backstory in the cartoon was only shown as it was a 'new character' this week. which was because there was a new toy, so they made them seem cool for 20mins. then in jetfires case stuck him on Ice. what tosh.
The comic allowed characters to develop over time due to its format.

Code: Select all
61. INT. DECEPTICON HQ, CHARR - DAY 61.
TWO SHOT - SPRINGER AND RODIMUS
are tied up in two separate chairs. In their mouths are two
S&M-style ball gags (a belt goes around their heads and a
little red ball sticks in their mouths). Both robots are
offline. Scourge steps in with a fire extinguisher and
SPRAYS both bots until they're wide awake and wet as otters.
The two prisoners look up at their captor.
Scourge stands in front of them, fire extinguisher in one
hand, gun in the other, and Rodimus' blaster sticking in his
belt.
SCOURGE
Nobody kills anybody in my place of
business except me or Galvatron.
A BUZZER buzzes.
SCOURGE
That's Galvatron.
Without saying another word, Scourge climbs up the stairs that
lead to red curtains and goes through them.
WE HEAR, on the other side of the curtains, Scourge let Galvatron
inside Decepticon HQ.
Springer and Rodimus look around the room. The basement of the
HQ has been converted into a dungeon. After taking in
their predicament, Springer and Rodimus look at each other, all
traces of hostility gone, replaced by a terror they both share
at what they've gotten themselves into.
Scourge and GALVATRON come through the curtains. Galvatron is an even
more intense version of Scourge, if such a thing is possible.
The two Decepticons are obviously Unicron-spawn. Where Scourge is a
vicious pitbull, Galvatron is a deadly cobra. Galvatron walks in and
stands in front of the two captives. He inspects them for a
long time, then says:
GALVATRON
(to Scourge)
You said you waited for me?
SCOURGE
I did.
GALVATRON
Then how come they're all beat up?
SCOURGE
They did that to each other. They
was fightin' when they came in.
This one was gonna shoot that one.
GALVATRON
(to Springer)
You were gonna shoot him?
Springer makes no reply.
GALVATRON
Hey, is the Nemesis II gonna be okay in
front of this place?
SCOURGE
Yeah, it ain't Tuesday is it?
GALVATRON
No, it's Thursday.
SCOURGE
Then she'll be fine.
GALVATRON
Bring out Cyclonus.
SCOURGE
I think Cylclonus is asleep.
GALVATRON
Well, I guess you'll just wake 'em
up then, won't you?
Scourge opens a trap door in the floor.
SCOURGE
(yelling in the hole)
Wake up!
Scourge reaches into the hole and comes back holding onto a
leash. He gives it a rough yank and, from below the floor,
rises CYCLONUS.
I would have waited a ******* eternity for this!!!!

Sigh, comic Nazis, we'll never have peace shall we?
Cyclonus in the cartoon was an honorable, respectable, loyal character and is the kind of Decepticon Soundwave could only dream to be. Cyclonus in the comic was an arrogant thug who didnt' amuse me or interest me the least, and I loved the comics. I didn't give a damn when he got decapitated.
Cartoon did some stuff better, get over it and accept the comic had some failings, not as many as the cartoon but yes they were there.

Fantastic character in the comic (fashioned by Budiansky).
Greatest Moment: I remember as a young teenager how enthralled I was, at the edge of my seat, reading that battle between him and that maniac Straxus. That was one of the highlights, not just of Blaster's history, not just of TF comic history, but in Transformers history period. And by the time this battle ensued, Budiansky marvelously had already developed Blaster in a single issue in his adventure with Scrounge. So it wasn't just Blasters best moment, those two issues were also some of Budiansky's best as well.
Worst Moment: Battling Grimlock on that moon. That was a low point for all Autobots. You mean to tell me that without Prime, everything breaks down into an all out rumble? A scene more fitting for Megs and Shockers, not of Autobot leader candidates.

Furman really sropped the ball with Blaster IMO. Bob Gave Blaster an air that he could have just about anyone - almsot Batman crossed with Wolverine.
I don't hold out much hope for teh WW version as DW have allready tainted him with teh cartoon in G1 Vol 2. Gah.
