I'm on my second day of quiting smoking :)

If the Ivory Tower is the brain of the board, and the Transformers discussion is its heart, then General Discussions is the waste disposal pipe. Or kidney. Or something suitably pulpy and soft, like 4 week old bananas.

Thank God for Nicotine inhalers!!

I just decided to quit the other day, gave my last pack of cigs and rolling tobaco to my mate and that was that. After 18 years (Yes I started smoking when I was 11 and I did think it was big and clever, at the time)

It's been hard and I usualy turn into a raging demon at about 3pm but I'm sure I'll get through it.

Problem is I started a diet the day before and it's hard keeping both in check. I think writing this down will help get it off my chest.

Good luck and hang on! :)

I've never smoked but know how hard it is for people to quit. One of my friends has quite 4 years ago but still has the urge sometimes.

And a story about my dad:

he has smoked all his life (about 30-35 years), and took part in an experiment about smoker's health. It turned out his lung capacity was only a third of what it should be!
This will never heal, so he has quite a health problem. He did quit, but he will never be in good health again. He's often out of breath and can't walk or cycle long distances.

So please be careful what you do to your body.

Yea, I wish I could do the same with over-eating.

For emergencies, I've heard that taking a swig of cinnamon mouthwash or unsweetened grapefruit juice will make it absolutely impossible to put a cigarette in your mouth for twenty minutes or so. Seriously, that's supposed to work.

Good luck, man.

Good on you, man. Seeing "Constantine" in the theatres is what shot my initial attempt at quitting to hell. I'd given into a craving a couple of days before that, thought it was fine, went back to not smoking... but by the time the movie was over I was niccing out like crazy. :o Not until that moment did I realize how easily influenced I was. :uhh:

I tried to give it up again a couple of days ago, but that same day after work I ran into a friend. Found out that she'd broken up with her bf a few days before... she'd been binge drinking like an insane person for a few days, looked like **** and wanted to talk. Asked me if I wanted to sit and have a cig with her and after listening to her for a bit I caved right away. :uhh: Actually ended up just sitting and smoking almost an entire pack between us.

Not blaming her, I was the one who caved after all. My attempt was really shot to **** there though. :p

Try a nicotine inhaler, ok I'm still dependant on nicotine but It shouldn't be that hard to quit that. I can drop the doseage from 10 mg to 5 mg.

Plus whilst everybody else has to wait for their breaks to smoke, I was smoking all the way through my team meeting, well all day to be honest :D  ;)
